Jonny DeLuca Recalled, Jake Marisnick Placed On Injured List
Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Jake Marisnick on the 10-day injured list due to a left hamstring strain and recalled Jonny DeLuca from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to the series finale against the Baltimore Orioles.

Marisnick lands on the IL less than one week after signing with the Dodgers. He became a free agent upon getting designated for assignment by the Detroit Tigers and clearing waivers. Marisnick rejected an outright assignment to the Minor Leagues in favor of free agency.

He’s appeared in four games with the Dodgers, each of them off the bench. Marisnick pinch-hit for Jason Heyward in the third inning on Tuesday due to the Orioles having a left-handed reliever on the mound.

Marisnick singled in his only at-bat and came out of the game in the bottom of the fourth. The Dodgers at the time announced it was due to left hamstring tightness.

The veteran outfielder was hitless in nine games with the Chicago White Sox before being traded, and batted .232/.270/.420 with three doubles, two triples, two home runs and 12 RBI over 33 games with the Tigers.

Upon joining the Dodgers, Marisnick said he would be willing to answer any questions his new teammates had about the 2017 Houston Astros’ cheating scandal that played a key role in winning the World Series.

Jonny DeLuca returns

DeLuca is back up with the Dodgers for a second time this season. He was originally recalled June 4 when the Dodgers put Trayce Thompson on the 15-day IL because of a left oblique strain.

DeLuca has appeared in 20 games for the Dodgers this season, batting .212/.278/.333 with one double, one home run and three RBI.

He was optioned to OKC as the corresponding move to the Dodgers adding Marisnick to their roster.

DeLuca made his MLB debut on June 7. Michael Busch (April 25), Gavin Stone (May 3), Bobby Miller (May 23), Nick Robertson (June 7), Emmet Sheehan (June 16) and Bryan Hudson (June 17) have also made their MLB debuts this season.
