With the Jake Peavy trade going down, a roster spot opened up. Since Blake Tekotte was optioned to AAA yesterday to make room for Andre Rienzo, the Sox have recalled Jordan Danks from Charlotte to give the team another outfield option. Many people will probably want to see the newly-acquired Avisail Garcia play in the big leagues, but Danks makes more sense for now. With Alex Rios still on the roster at this point, there simply aren’t the at-bats available for Garcia. While the White Sox sent Danks down last month because they wanted to give Danks more playing time, that ship seems to have sailed now with the Garcia acquisition, and the Sox probably want to see if Danks can be at least a fourth outfielder moving forward. It doesn’t sound like Alex Rios’ foot injury is serious enough to warrant a DL stint, as the team’s calling it just a bruise. So, unless he leaves via trade, expect to see Garcia stick in AAA to get at-bats while Jordan Danks backs up all three outfield positions. Danks was hitting .279 with six home runs and 28 RBI for the Knights. This will be his fourth major league stint over the last two seasons (third this year), and he's hit .192 with two home runs and six RBI in 104 career at-bats. Both of those home runs have been game-winners, hitting a walk-off in the ninth against Oakland last August, and hitting a solo home run in Kansas City in extra innings back in May.
