Jose Iglesias now has some hardware to show for his hot start to the season. Iglesias, who enters Wednesday’s game against the Padres hitting .415, was named the American League Rookie of the Month for June. Iglesias hit .395 (34-for-86) in June while getting on base at a .453 clip. He had one home run, six RBIs, four doubles, two triples and two steals while playing fantastic defense at both shortstop and third base. Iglesias became the first Red Sox player to earn Rookie of the Month honors since Jacoby Ellsbury accomplished the feat in 2007. The award is just the latest sign of how much Iglesias has developed as a player. The Red Sox recently demoted third baseman Will Middlebrooks, which created even more of an opportunity for Iglesias. The 23-year-old is now a staple in Boston’s lineup, and he has begun playing his natural shortstop position over the last few games in Stephen Drew‘s absence. Have a question for Ricky Doyle?
