Josh Donaldson might want to forget to bring his jersey to games more often.
After accidentally leaving his No. 20 behind for Friday’s Cactus League tilt against the Mariners, the A’s third baseman was forced to wear a spare No. 98 jersey. Donaldson went on to have his best game by far of the season—two deep homers in three at bats. (It was all for naught, however, as rain caused the game to be called off.
I know what you’re thinking: Donaldson should switch numbers permanently! But don’t get your hopes too up. Donaldson doesn’t sound so hot on the idea. From MLB.com:
“I don’t know if it was the number or not,” Donaldson said with a sheepish grin following Friday’s game, which was called after 3 1/2 innings because of rain. “But I might give it another shot.”
The stats don’t lie. While wearing No. 20, Donaldson is just 1-for-20 this spring. But in No. 98, he’s 2-for-3 with the two homers and three RBIs. [...]
