Josh Hamilton’s poor play in July came to a head on Saturday.  The Texas Rangers All-Star was held out of the lineup against the Chicago White Sox on Saturday night, due to what manager Ron Washington called “a mental break.”

There are no reported injuries being attributed to Hamilton’s lack of production this month.  Hamilton himself has credited this slump to a lack of focus.  Let’s chalk this up as a night off and assume  Hamilton to be back in the lineup on Sunday.  This is definitely a situation to keep a close eye on.

The former AL MVP is batting .145 with 10 RBI in July.  It should be noted that he is tied with Miguel Cabrera for the AL lead with 83 RBI and sits in second in the AL behind Adam Dunn with 28 homers.

Josh Hamilton praying for fans booing him amid slump

Josh Hamilton is in the middle of an ugly stretch, hitting just .190 since the start of June and failing to get a single hit with runners in scoring position in July. Rangers fans are starting to get cranky. Boos emanating from the crowd at the Ballpark in Arlington are beginning to be noticeable and are growing. Hamilton, of course, has heard the booing, and he says he’s not...

Hamilton remains upbeat despite rough week

ARLINGTON, Texas A tough week for Texas slugger Josh Hamilton took another turn Saturday when he was given what Texas manager Ron Washington termed a mental day off. Hamilton is hitting .284 on the season and batting .206 over the last 55 games. That .206 number is better than the current slide he's in as Hamilton is hitting just .119 over the last 16 games and has 19 strikeouts...

Hamilton hears boo-birds in Arlington

A new chapter in Josh Hamilton's long slump began Friday night. Call it the booing stage. For the first time since he joined the Texas Rangers, Hamilton was booed noticeably at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington. The boos came following a pair of strikeouts Friday in Texas' 9-5 loss to the Chicago White Sox. Hamilton went 0-for-4 to extend his current drought to 0-for-12....

Rangers right-hander Neftali Feliz was scratched from his scheduled rehabilitation start Sunday at Triple-A Round Rock because of discomfort in his right elbow. Feliz will undergo further evaluation and a timetable for his return is undetermined. Loss doesn't overshadow season for Harrison

ARLINGTON, Texas There was a time when the Rangers' struggles on offense might have affected starter Matt Harrison. Harrison has since become a more focused pitcher, but it didn't help in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the White Sox that he had a slightly below-par performance in an otherwise stellar season. While the Rangers where 0-for-13 with runners in scoring position...

Rangers activate Moreland, option OF Martin

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- The Rangers have activated first baseman Mitch Moreland from the disabled list and optioned outfielder Leonys Martin to Triple-A Round Rock. Moreland was in the lineup for Monday night's game against the Los Angeles Angels. He has been out since June 19 when he strained his left hamstring running out a ground ball in San Diego. Moreland is hitting ...

Feldman, Rangers blank White Sox

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Scott Feldman tied a career high by pitching eight shutout innings in helping the Texas Rangers snap a two-game skid with a 2-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. Rangers 2, White Sox 0

Scott Feldman tied a career high by pitching eight shutout innings in helping the Texas Rangers snap a two-game skid with a 2-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Sunday. David Murphy had three hits, including a double, and Josh Hamilton and Nelson Cruz each scored a run for the Rangers, who host a four-game series against the Los Angeles Angels in a West Division showdown starting...

Rangers’ offense remains flat

Another night.  Another bad performance by the Rangers’ offense.  Another lost game. (By the way, I got to watch this one.  By some miracle, it was not blacked out.) Matt Harrison held his own for the first three innings.  Even though the bats weren’t doing anything, he was giving them every chance to get in it.  I guess he gave up after that because the White Sox got five...

Feldmania powers past Sox

Wow, Scott Feldman.  I’ve missed this version of you. Eight innings. 88 pitches.  Seven hits.  Five strikeouts. No runs. That kind of outing was definitely what Mike Maddux ordered.  With the offense still sputtering to get it together, the pitchers have to work extra hard to keep their opponents from scoring a ton.  And that’s what Feldman did tonight. Feldman looked completely...

Darvish, Rangers lose opener with White Sox

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Alejandro De Aza hit a two-run single before leaving the game after an outfield collision, and the Chicago White Sox beat the Texas Rangers 9-5 Friday night in a series opener between American League division leaders. Chris Sale rebounded from a shaky start to earn his 12th win and the White Sox got homers from Kevin Youkilis and Alexei Ramirez in their...

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – While third baseman Mike Olt is hearing his name mentioned in trade rumors for the second consecutive year, the Texas Rangers are hesitant to give him up for a summer rental player. Lone Star Dugout features and interviews the 23-year-old prospect, who talked about the trade rumors and his development this season.

Rangers expanding their search

The Texas Rangers, frustrated by the thin trade market for starting pitchers, are increasing their focus on relievers and hitters, according to major-league sources. Cleveland Indians right fielder Shin-Soo Choo is one hitter in whom the Rangers have interest, sources said. But the Rangers are casting a wide search, and were not yet believed to be close to any trades. The Indians...
