PLAYERS: Dwight Gooden
TEAMS: New York Mets

Not every story has a happy ending. Nobody knows that better than former New York Met Dwight Gooden.

The one that they called ” Dr. K’ is going through apparently what is a pretty messy divorce with his wife Monique.

The two have children and have been living together in New Jersey as the process plays itself out. That all changed on March 1.

Josh Edgin: Why he could be the Mets closer

As the season draws closer to beginning, the Mets have a major question of injuries. Among them,, is Frank Francisco. He is in the final year of his two-year contract but has yet to throw a pitch this year. He is projected to possibly begin a throwing regiment in a few weeks. That may project him being placed on the DL for the beginning of the season. Manager Terry Collins has...

Santana Steps On A Mound, Not Happy To Be The Center Of Attention This Morning

Updated on 3/3 As most of us expected, Johan Santana has shown up to camp and is none too happy about being the center of attention this morning according to Andy Martino of the Daily News. A displeased Santana had this to say to reporters,  ”What is spring training for? Training.” While true, spring training is for training, Santana hasn’t trained or thrown a pitch off a...

Communication Breakdown: Is Terry Collins In Charge Or Is Johan Santana?

What we have here is a failure to communicate. Or worse, a desire not to communicate. Apparently, unbeknownst to manager Terry Collins, his veteran left-hander Johan Santana threw off the mound Sunday when the Mets earlier indicated it could be at least ten days before he would do so.ESPN reported this dialogue: Collins: “What did you get on the mound for?” Santana: “Because...

A breakdown of the Mets’ 2013 promotions

It’s that time of the year!  Time to see what the Mets PR and marketing staff have come up with to entice you to step right up and greet the Mets.  Of course a team that won much more than they lost WOULD help, but such as it is, here is what promotions and special days you can look forward to this year at Citi Field. First off, a bit meh about this year’s slogan “Great Place...

Mets News and Notes: Nieuwenhuis, Santana

Mets News and Notes: Kirk Nieuwenhuis was headed for a doctor’s examination after suffering a left-knee injury sliding into second base on a steal in the seventh inning of Sunday’s 6-4 loss to the Miami Marlins. Nieuwenhuis downplayed the injury, hoping it was only a “bad bruise.” But he slammed his helmet upon reaching the dugout and needed a cart to be transported from...

2013 Mets – I Wanna Be In Pictures

Seriously? Don’t you guys and girls at MMO have anything better to do with your time? I thought we’d have a little fun last week, so I asked some of our writers to tell me what Hollywood Movies came to mind when asked to consider the 2013 Mets outfield, our starting rotation, David Wright, Sandy Alderson and Terry Collins. Some of the responses I got back were pretty hilarious...

Jeremy Hefner Wants To Be “The Man”

The latest on Johan Santana cane from manager Terry Collins who said that Johan Santana’s decision to throw a bullpen for the first time in 10 days, was “unnecessary” and said he “wished his ace handled himself differently.” Mike Kerwick of The Record quotes Collins who suggests that Santana needs to calm down and get his emotions in check, and that he should have gone...

MMO Featured Post: Can The Mets Win The WAR in 2013?

The New York Mets ended up winning 74 games during the 2012 season. Their Cy Young winner R.A. Dickey was traded and their most productive outfielder, Scott Hairston, has departed as well. The farm system may be in much better shape, and their projected 2014 payroll will be in the bottom of the majors for now – potentially opening a lot of financial flexibility going forward. However...

Mets' Johan Santana throws off a mound

Despite Terry Collins saying yesterday that Johan Santana wouldn't throw off a mound for at least ten days, the New York Mets' ace did just that this morning.  As he tries to work his way back from a minor setback to his spring conditioning, Santana was told to hold off on throwing.  It seems, he has been cleared and could return sooner than expected. It was the first...

Matt Den Dekker Deserves Shot At Opening Day Nod In Centerfield

If you have been watching the Mets at all this spring, one thing has become evident – Matt den Dekker deserves a shot to be the Opening Day centerfielder. Throw the offensive stats out the window for just a second and ask yourself who you would want out there chasing down fly balls. After seeing a few highlight reel catches already this spring, it becomes more and more evident...

Who Wants To Be A Mets Outfielder? Part 8

The Mets tied again today (this time 8-8) as they march on to become the first team ever (I haven’t checked this but I imagine its true) to have more ties in Spring Training than wins and losses. Matt Harvey had a nice start for the Mets today after allowing a lead off homer strike out 4 batters over 50 pitches of work. E. Ramirez not so much as he got hit around a bunch struggling...

Remembering The Great No. 8

I was walking around the mall yesterday with my wife, trying to get her to go into labor with our second child (first son). They say walking is good for kickstarting the labor process at this point, and as we were walking around, I decided to duck into the sports memorabilia store. I was pacing through the store, looking at the autographs of all the great players hanging on...

Rabbit Food

The Braves defeated the Mets 4-2 in Port St. Lucie today, so the next 2013 eulogy will appear on a mainstream website any second now. The most hilarious moment came in the fifth inning when a pop fly went towards Lucas Duda and he did his impression of Ike Davis after those benders that the Mets think he goes on all the time. (Lucas had better hit 40 bombs if that's what...
