Atlanta Braves young starter Julio Teheran baffled Minnesota Twins bats on Monday night, leading the NL East division leading Braves to a 5-1 victory. Entering the game with a 2-1 record and 4.57 ERA, Teheran would almost go the distance, working 8.1 innings and surrendering only one run, a ninth-inning solo shot by Josh Willingham with one out. Teheran fanned four batters and allowed one walk, working up a season-high pitch count of 123. Teheren improved to 3-1 on the season, lowering his ERA for the eighth consecutive game, which now sits at 3.99. His 30/9 strikeout to walk ratio suggests solid command in 49.2 innings this season. Offensively, the Braves struck early, scoring four of their five runs in the first inning. Atlanta second baseman Dan Uggla led the charge with a three-run home run off of Kevin Correia, following an RBI single by Freddie Freeman. The Braves improved to 26-18 on the season, maintaining a three-game lead over the Washington Nationals in the NL East division standings.
