So I went to read about the Mets win over the Dodgers on the internet, and this is what I found*:

I know Bobby Parnell stunk as closer last season but there's no need to jump the gun, guys. Parnell actually threw a 1-2-3 inning to save the game in his first shot since Frangag Frantsisk's injury. And despite their Chicago airplane hijinks the Mets came to play on Thursday. Before the game everybody was imploring everybody else to vote for David Wright to make the all-star team, and by the end of the first inning he had already smacked a run scoring double and made a barehanded play to throw out Dee Gordon. And America was all like "So why haven't you voted for him yet, dammit?" And then later on he hit a home run which made all the Giants fans vote for him because they hate the Dodgers anyway.

Chris Young pitched a strong six and a third while outpitching Chris Capuano (who I still wish the Mets had instead of Mike Pelfrey but I'll save the sobbing for the end of the season). The middle relief was strong as well. Tim Byrdak in particular was strong enough to make Gordon make this face:

Either he went down looking at a letter-high fastball or there was a Kardashian in the stands.

But Parnell was the cherry on top of the sundae as he got Scott Van Slyke, Andy Kennedy, and Bobby Abreu, with no hits or walks in between. Now I realize this is the Dodgers lineup which has scored five runs since Matt Kemp got hurt, but a 1-2-3 ninth inning is a 1-2-3 ninth inning. Who knew that it would be Bobby Parnell? Last season, nobody. This season, he could be the new version of Jason Motte, who needed some learning knocked into his head before he could be the closer. Parnell had plenty of learning knocked into him last year, and now he's got two weeks to keep the Mets in the race. But somehow, there's no pressure on him ... I mean, no more pressure than usual on a Mets closer. Who's going to get more nervous for a Parnell ninth inning than, say, for a Frantsisk ninth inning? So there's really nothing to lose from this point on, right?

*It was a joke. This CNN page never happened. They'd never do something like that.
