After getting swept in the double header on Friday by the division rival Cleveland Indians, the White Sox took the field again Saturday afternoon to try to get back on track. Starter Dylan Axelrod had a good outing, which started off with three scoreless frames against the Tribe. It looked like it was going to be a much lower scoring affair than either of the games on Friday. The Sox took the lead in the second inning on a Tyler Flowers RBI double. 'T.Flow' continues to drive in runs at a bit of a more consistent rate and has his average up to .216. His slugging percentage of .392 is actually even better than many Sox hitters including Alexei Ramirez, Jeff Keppinger, Conor Gillaspie, and Dayan Viciedo. After an Asdrubal Cabrera home run tied the game in the fourth inning, the Sox reclaimed the lead in the fifth when Conor Gillaspie and Dayan Viciedo each pitched in RBI singles. Unfortunately, the theme of the afternoon was not being able to cling to any leads. Immediately in the top of the sixth inning, Dylan Axelrod let up a two-run home run to the red hot Jason Kipnis to tie the game at three apiece. And then in the eighth inning, Jesse Crain's streak of not letting up an earned run in 30 tries ended, as Nick Swisher came through for Cleveland. It earned Crain his third loss of the season (2-3) and raised his ERA from 0.50 to 0.74. The Sox will try to salvage a game from the four-game set Sunday afternoon as Chris Sale (5-6, 2.75 ERA) faces Justin Masterson (9-6, 3.76 ERA). The palehose are now a season-worst 32-46.
