Justin Morneau was replaced in the top of the 7th inning of the Minnesota Twins' 4-3 loss to the Los Angeles Angels on Monday night with what the team deemed to be a sore left wrist. If it weren't for the fact that Morneau has a lengthy history of dealing with injuries and he had surgery on this very wrist during the offseason to stabilize a tendon in it, one might not be too concerned with his early exit from the game.  However, the Twins (5-17) have every right to be very worried because Morneau flew back to Minnesota after the game and will be seeing a specialist to have the wrist checked out. While Morneau is hopeful that it's just scar tissue breaking apart, it's disconcerting that he started to feel discomfort in the wrist during the Tampa Bay series and let it get worse over the weekend before he couldn't take it anymore on Monday night (especially since he was also hurting the team more than helping it).  The Twins have five games remaining on their six...

Morneau injures surgically repaired wrist

Morneau left Monday's game after just two at-bats with a sore left wrist. Sean Burroughs replaced him in the seventh inning as the Twins' designated hitter. Time to End Gardy Time?

You may have noticed that the Minnesota Twins are not good. They are certainly a long way from 2010, when they won the American League Central for the second year in a row. That meant it was time for certain writers to start talking (again) about how Ron Gardenhire was maybe The Best Manager in Baseball, because, hey, someone had to be making the Twins win against all odds (supposedly...

Twins' Liriano shows progress despite defeat

It may not look like it in the box score, but Tuesday's start was progress for Twins left-hander Francisco Liriano. Liriano had time off to clear his mind and to prepare for his fifth start of the year after getting knocked around in his first four starts and skipping his last time through the rotation. And while he was charged with the loss in Minnesota's 4-0loss at the...

Twins to recall Butera for catching depth

The Minnesota Twins are recalling catcher Drew Butera from the minors to add some depth behind banged-up Joe Mauer. The Twins announced plans to recall Butera on Tuesday, a few hours before they were set to play the Los Angeles Angels. The Twins did not immediately announce a corresponding move. Mauer was injured while catching on Sunday when he took a foul ball off his left knee...

Why I'm Not Sweet On Frankie

All the Twins talk around the Minnesota airwaves today has been about Francisco Liriano and how he took a step forward after last night's 4-0 loss against the Angels.  He gave up back to back bombs and Torii Hunter ate him up all game but, all-in-all, but he held his composure and didn't look to bad, right?  I say WRONG!  Being only a former college pitcher, I certainly...

Twins clubhouse bolstered by win over Royals

MINNEAPOLIS Everything that had been missing for Minnesota during its 5-15 start, the Twins found it all on Sunday. Hits with runners in scoring position. A quality start by the starting pitcher. And, most importantly, a win. With a 7-3 victory Sunday over the visiting Kansas City Royals, the Twins snapped the six-game losing streak that dropped them to the worst record in baseball...

Twins recall Butera from Triple-A Rochester

With multiple players nursing injuries, the Minnesota Twins recalled catcher Drew Butera from Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday. Butera will head to Anaheim in time for Tuesday night's game against the Los Angeles Angels. A corresponding 25-man roster move has not yet been made but will be made Tuesday afternoon, the Twins announced. It's likely Minnesota will wait on the result...

Liriano trying not to overthink his next start

MINNEAPOLIS All eyes will be on Twins left-hander Francisco Liriano when he makes his next start Tuesday against Los Angeles. After early-season struggles, Liriano was skipped the last time through the rotation. But he'll take the hill Tuesday after taking some time off, hoping to turn around his season. After his latest bullpen session Saturday, Liriano sounds refreshed and...
