The Victory Formation:
A few months back, shortly after signing with the Detroit Tigers, Torii Hunter made the controversial statement that it would be “difficult and uncomfortable” having an openly gay teammate. But the truth of the matter is pretty simple, there are gay players in MLB locker rooms as we speak, just as there are throughout collegiate and professional sports. Hunter’s teammate, Justin Verlander, doesn’t seem to hold the same point of view if a player was to come out within their own organization, though he understands why someone would keep that private during their playing career. “It’s a tricky subject because you start getting into locker rooms, walking around nude, or whatever,” Verlander told CNN”s Carol Costello. “As with any sport, a gay player probably would be hesitant to come out.” Enough players, like Hunter, have either privately or publically gave their opinions on gay players.
