In this day and age, who would have ever thought we would be able to say the Kansas City Royals are poised for great things? Well, maybe not. Maybe they are.

I was checking out the MLB standings today and noticed the Royals are in third place in the AL Central. Honestly, I wrote the Royals off months ago. And they didn't disappoint. Once again, they're no threat to make the postseason, even with the extra wild card. But. That word again. But they did show some improvement.

At the All-Star break, the Royals were 37-47 (.440) and in fourth place in the Central division. Fast forward to today, and the Royals are 70-85 (.452). Let's hear it for improvement!

Sarcasm aside, the Royals have gone 33-38. By comparison, the White Sox, who just fell out of first place, are 35-35 after the break. While not earth shattering, keep in mind this is the closest the Royals have been to a .500 season since 2008.

2012 (to date) 70-85 (.452) * with seven games remaining, three against the lowly Indians.
2011: 71-91 (.438)
2010: 67-95 (.414)
2009: 65-97 (.401)
2008: 75-87 (.463)
2007: 69-93 (.426)
2006: 62-100 (.383) Sheesh!
2005: 56-106 (.346) Yikes again!
2004: 58-104 (..358) Yikes!
2003: 83-79 (.512)

Since the dreadful mid-90's, the Royals have shown some improvement. As a baseball fan though, a winning record would be a positive. If Baltimore can do it in the AL East, the Royals can do it in the Central.
