Trey Griffey, the son of 13-time MLB All-Star Ken Griffey Jr., verbally committed to play football for the University of Arizona on Monday night.

The 6-foot-2 wide receiver made his official visit to Arizona over the weekend and choose the Wildcats over Michigan State, Washington State, Iowa State and others.

Trey, who set single-season records for passes caught and receiving yards at Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando is ranked as a two-star prospect by Scout.com and runs a 4.5 40-yard dash.

Arizona went 4-8 in 2011 and canned coach Mike Stoops after 6 games. The Wildcats hired Rich Rodriguez in November. Griffey will sign his letter of intent next Wednesday on National Signing Day.

Trey won't be the only Pac-12 freshman with a famous dad, Diddy's son Justin commited to play at UCLA back in November.

Man this makes me feel old! I remember ripping open packs of cards, just hoping to get a Ken Griffey Jr. rookie when I was a kid. Back then he was so young and he was sure to be the next big thing. He was swagged out with his jheri-curl drippin' while rockin' two chains over a turtle-neck. Now he's old and getting chubby, but maybe it's his son's turn to be the next big thing.
