Trey Griffey, the son of 13-time MLB All-Star Ken Griffey Jr., verbally committed to play football for the University of Arizona on Monday night. The 6-foot-2 wide receiver made his official visit to Arizona over the weekend and choose the Wildcats over Michigan State, Washington State, Iowa State and others. Trey, who set single-season records for passes caught and receiving yards at Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando is ranked as a two-star prospect by Scout.com and runs a 4.5 40-yard dash. Arizona went 4-8 in 2011 and canned coach Mike Stoops after 6 games. The Wildcats hired Rich Rodriguez in November. Griffey will sign his letter of intent next Wednesday on National Signing Day.
