The Minnesota Twins and FA Kendrys Morales have agreed to a one year deal.  Morales played for the Seattle Mariners last season after being traded from the Los Angeles Angels for Jason Vargas.  Morales has hit at least 20 home runs in 3 of the last 4 seasons, and in 2009 hit 34 home runs while driving in 108 runs for the Angels.   Playing at Target Field is sure to limit his home runs especially in half a season, but Morales is a gap hitter and should fit in nicely with the Twins.  Minnesota has surprised the baseball world this season and sit just 3 games under .500 despite having one of the worst pitching staffs in baseball.  Morales should provide some solid hitting in the middle of the Twins order, that recently saw Josh Willingham return.#178278133 / gettyimages.comThe Twins moved Joe Mauer to 1B this season and have been using Kurt Suzuki behind the plate and Josmil Pinto as their DH. Now with Morales on the squad as their designated hitter, it will be interesting to see how the club splits playing time between Suzuki and Pinto.

Numerous teams were interested in Morales but were unwilling to surrender...

Morales signing breathes life into Twins' clubhouse

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Twins are sending a message. They're not just building for the future -- they're trying to win in 2014, too. That message was pounded home Sunday when the Twins announced the signing of veteran free agent Kendrys Morales, a designated hitter/first baseman who went the first two months of the season without signing with a team. Minnesota, needing...

Twins Agree to Borrow Kendrys Morales

The surprising part wasn’t that Kendrys Morales signed immediately after he was no longer tied to compensation. The surprising part was that Kendrys Morales signed with the Minnesota Twins, instead of any of the more obvious possibilities. When Morales signed, the Twins were 29-31, and they fancy themselves a surprising potential contender, which tells you […]

Not pitching in: Twins hurlers fail to help club in blowout loss

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Twins signed veteran Kendrys Morales on Sunday with the hope that he can inject some life into their offense. Yet on the same day that Morales was inked to a one-year deal, the Twins' offense wasn't the problem against the visiting Astros. The pitching was. Minnesota's pitchers gave up a season-high 14 runs as Houston won the series finale...

Texas Rangers now considering free agent Kendrys Morales

The first day of the amateur draft is over. Kendrys Morales is now on the clock. With losing a first-round draft choice no longer a consideration, teams are now more free to pursue the free agent switch-hitting DH and first baseman. The Rangers, according to two baseball sources, are in the mix. Rangers GM Jon Daniels did return a request for comment, but Daniels’ policy has...

Twins Sign Kendrys Morales, DFA Jason Kubel

After signing free-agent Kendrys Morales to a deal a spot on the roster had to be created and today the Minnesota Twins designated for assignment Jason Kubel.  Morales played 156 games for Seattle last year, hitting .277 with 34 doubles, 23 home runs and 80 runs batted in. The 30-year-old switch-hitter declined a qualifying offer from the Mariners in the offseason.  Kubel  has...

Fantasy Waiver Wire: Week 10

Position Players Kendrys Morales The Twins picked him up as soon as the draft pick compensation disappeared. Target Field suppresses power somewhat, but only slightly less so than Los Angeles of Anaheim, and not quite as much as Safeco. In short, there’s not much reason to change expectations. The Twins let go of Jason Kubel to make room for him so the at-bats should be regular...

Minnesota Twins sign Kendrys Morales

The Minnesota Twins officially announced the signing of first baseman/DH Kendrys Morales on Sunday. Morales, who rejected a qualifying offer from the Seattle Mariners this past offseason, was finally signed after the 2014 first year player draft commenced, and in doing so, the Twins do not owe the Mariners a draft pick. Morales, signed through the end of the 2014 season, received...

Kendrys Morales signs with Minnesota Twins (for some reason)

As the draft wraps up today, Kendrys Morales’ wait in comp pick purgatory is finally over. The slugging DH/1B has agreed to a one-year deal with the Minnesota Twins for a prorated $12 million. At this point in the season, a prorated $12 million deal would pay Morales about $7.6 million for the rest of the year. On the surface, this seems like a questionable deal — at best ...
