The New York Yankees signed Kevin Millwood to a minor league deal prior to the start of the regular season, but he has decided to exercise the opt-out clause and become a free agent. Millwood was not pitching particularly well as his 4.50 ERA in 16 Double and Triple-A innings would indicate (to be fair, he didn’t give up any runs in his one Double-A start).  Furthermore, the New York Yankees’ rotation is in pretty good shape for the time being (knock on wood) and there was no spot for him.  On one hand, you don’t really want to lose the depth, but on the other hand losing Millwood isn’t really anything to think twice about.  He’s just not very good anymore and if the Yankees get to a point where they are desperate enough to use him, they might as well promote a youngster like Hector Noesi, Adam Warren, David Phelps or perhaps even Andrew Brackman.
