The Minnesota Twins have traded right-handed pitcher Kevin Slowey to the Colorado Rockies for a player to be named later, the team announced Tuesday. Slowey, 27, spent his first five seasons in the majors with the Twins, breaking into the league in 2007. He began his career as a starter, but was moved to the bullpen prior to the 2011 season. In five years with Minnesota, Slowey was 39-29 and posted a 4.66 ERA in 532 23 innings pitched. Slowey made it known that he wanted to be a starter and wasn't happy with the bullpen role. Due to injuries to several starters in 2011, Slowey eventually got his wish. He was thrust into the rotation late in the season but he struggled as a starter, going 0-8 with a 7.25 ERA in eight starts (44 23 innings). He also spent time on the disabled list this past season, missing extended time with an abdominal strain.
