ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Jason Kipnis had a home run among his three hits and the Cleveland Indians got a series-clinching 5-2 victory over the Texas Rangers on Wednesday night. A night after ending an eight-game losing streak, and a span of 12 losses in a row away from home, the Indians made it consecutive victories to clinch their first road series in a month. They had gone 0-4-1 in series since taking two of three May 10-12 at Detroit, the only American League team with a better home record than Texas this season. Mike Aviles also homered for Cleveland, which also won 5-2 on Tuesday after losing the series opener 6-3. The Indians get a day off before starting a nine-game homestand Friday against Washington. Ubaldo Jimenez (5-4) allowed one run pitching into the sixth. Rangers rookie right-hander Nick Tepesch (3-6) gave up five runs in five innings with five strikeouts. The Indians went ahead to stay with two outs in the second when Jason Giambi was hit by a pitch and Aviles homered, his fourth this season, for a 2-0 lead. An inning later, Michael Bourn had a leadoff infield hit and scored on Michael Brantley's single. Leonys Martin scored both runs for Texas, now 19-10 at home. He led off the third with his third homer, and reached on an error in the ninth before scoring on Jurickson's Profar's double. Jimenez, who had four strikeouts and four walks, was gone after Lance Berkman walked and Adrian Beltre singled to start the sixth. Reliever Rich Hill retired the only batter he faced before Bryan Shaw got the last two outs of the inning. Kipnis, who finished a triple shy of the cycle, hit his ninth homer on the first pitch of the fifth. Brantley then walked with one out and scored on a double by Carlos Santana to make it 5-1. After a flyout in his first at-bat, Kipnis singled in the third. He had a hustling double in the seventh, when he hit the ball to left and slid headfirst into second to beat a strong throw by David Murphy, who had already thrown out one base runner. In the ninth, Kipnis reached on a strange double-play fielder's choice. Runners on first and second base both froze when shortstop Jurickson Profar couldn't quite come up with a short-hopper. Profar threw to third for the force, and Adrian Beltre held the ball momentarily before realizing there was still a play to be made at second. Bourn also started the game with a single, but ended the first when he was thrown out trying to score on Brantley's two-out hit. Murphy threw a strike to catcher A.J. Pierzynski, who held on through the collision at the plate. It was Murphy's third outfield assistant his last eight games. Notes: Vinnie Pestano pitched the ninth for Cleveland, and needed 15 pitches to get out leadoff hitter Jeff Baker on a disputed play at first base. ... MLB News: Indians pull C Lou Marson from rehab assignment

The Indians today announced that C Lou Marson has been experiencing continued soreness in his throwing shoulder, and that they have pulled him from his rehab assignment with the Columbus Clippers. They did not give a timetable on his return. Marson first went on the DL with a neck strain after a home plate collision, but experienced shoulder soreness during his throwing program....

Indians are happy to be home

The Cleveland Indians may be thrilled to return home. Justin Masterson may be the most relieved. Coming off a lackluster road trip, the Indians hope Masterson can continue his home dominance in Friday night's series opener with the Washington Nationals. Cleveland (32-33) opened a nine-game road trip by losing seven in a row before finding some solace in winning the last two,...

Vinnie Pestano and Zach McAllister take Kiss Cam to New York City streets (VIDEO)

MLB.com Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Zach McAllister and current closer Vinnie Pestano took to the streets of New York City during a recent roadtrip with an MLB Fan Cave camera following them.  The goal: a roving Kiss Cam.  As you will see, Major League Baseball players have pull for absolutely no reason at all. They found some people willing and others unwilling.  But my...

Indians end road trip with another win in Texas, 2 out of 9 is better than nothing.

Indians pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez worked hard last night for the 5 innings he pitched. The Tribe was looking to get another win in Texas to end their 9 game road trip from hell with a 2-7 record. It looked like the Indians weren’t going to win any games on this 9 game road trip that started in New York. The Indians fans watched as Jimenez worked his trail off in Texas last night....

Second Thoughts: The sweet life of Zach and Corey

When the Indians placed Brett Myers on the 60-day DL this week, they also effectively moved the veteran from the “reclamation” pile to the junk pile-- $7 million in dough down the drain for all intents and purposes. Barring a shocking comeback, Myers is this year’s Derek Lowe. And so, for those with a perpetual ax to grind, it’s another fine occasion to either (a) bemoan...

Texas Rangers’ Alexi Ogando: Starter Or Reliever?

Alexi Ogando, starter or reliever? If you are a fan of the Texas Rangers, you have been hearing this debate wage on for a number of seasons. This debate seems to have split the fan base down the middle much like the “trade or keep Jurickson Profar” battle. It has been beaten to death over and over again about what the Rangers should do with the hard throwing right hander, but...

Murphy's arm bigger than his bat right now

ARLINGTON, Texas David Murphy is far from the only Ranger struggling at the plate these days, but at least he has contributed with his arm. For the second game in a row, Murphy threw out a base runner from left field. On Tuesday, he pegged Cleveland's Carlos Santana trying to stretch a single into a double. Wednesday, it was the speedy Michael Bourn who tested Murphy'...

Sailing with the Clippers: 6/6/13 - 6/12/13

The month of June continues to be a painful one for the Clippers who are now 32-34 after another losing week which saw the team go 2-4 in two series against Toledo and Gwinnett. The starting pitching has been throwing better as of late but if Columbus expects to contend for a playoff spot, the rotation will have to delve deeper into games to prevent late-season exhaustion in the...

Darvish 4 consecutive starts without win for Texas

Yu Darvish is going through a drought unlike any he's been through with the Texas Rangers. The ace from Japan has made four consecutive starts without a victory for his first time in the majors. Since last winning May 16, Darvish lost a 1-0 game and has had three consecutive no-decisions. The major league strikeout leader has a 2.28 ERA over that stretch, when the Rangers scored...

Rangers Ballpark sinkhole cancels BP

A busted pipe under the infield at Rangers Ballpark has created a sinkhole right behind the pitcher's mound. On-field batting practice was canceled for both the Texas Rangers and Cleveland Indians while workers tried to fix the problem 2 1/2 hours before Tuesday night's scheduled game. Rangers officials expect the problem to be fixed in time to play the game. Texas players...

This was the fourth doubleheader played by the Mudcats this season. Carolina now has a...

The Texas Rangers, Manager Needs to pick a center fielder already

I think it’s high time RW quit bull-cooking around with his two center fielders regarding his vague, fly-by-the-seat-of-his-pants approach to playing time for Craig Gentry and Leonys Martin. It’s high time Washington made up his mind as to which of his two outfielders brings more to the table talent and effort wise and simply give THAT player the bulk of the starts in center...
