From Press Release
The Corvallis Knights have signed Tacoma Community College sophomore pitcher Brandon Choate for the 2013 season, general manager Bre Kerkvliet announced Wednesday.
He is a 6-foot-5, 215-pound righthander from Mountlake Terrace High School in Lynnwood, Wash. He was a two-year letterman at MTHS, and also played for the Washington Wave summer team.
Choate was 0-1 with a 6.54 ERA in 10 appearances as a TCC freshman in 2012, with 12 strikeouts in 11 innings. He topped out at 90 MPH recently at TCC's annual Scout Day event.
Way, Trentacosta sign with pro teams
Former Knights left-handed pitchers Matt Way (2007) and Mark Trentacosta (2011) have signed pro contracts for the 2013 season.
Way signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks after playing independent league ball in 2012 with Laredo in the American Association and Long Island in the Atlantic League. He played in the Philadelphia system in 2009-11.
Trentacosta signed with the River City Rascals in the independent Frontier League. He was selected by St. Louis in the 2012 draft and signed, but his contract was voided by a pre-existing injury and he did not play professionally in 2012.
Melker, Bell to Perth Heat
Former Knights Adam Melker (2008-09) and Carter Bell (2009), a former Oregon State letterman, will play for the Perth Heat in the Australia Baseball League this offseason. Melker is in the St. Louis organization, Bell in the Arizona organization.
The Heat open their season Nov. 1. As the reigning ABL champions, they will also play in the five-country Asia Series in Busan, South Korea, on Nov. 8-11.
Corvallis native and Knights skipper Brooke Knight, who is not returning for a third season as the Heat’s coach, will direct the team at the tournament.
