Reliever Koji Uehara has reached an agreement with the Boston Red Sox, pending a physical. The 37-year-old right-hander spent the last two seasons with Texas, and Rangers general manager Jon Daniels said Thursday that he had tried to re-sign him before Uehara decided to accept Boston's offer. ''We would have liked to have him back,'' Daniels said. ''We made an offer early in the process.'' Uehara had a 1.75 ERA in 37 relief appearances this year, holding batters to a .160 average. Earlier in the week, Texas agreed to an $8 million, two-year contract with Joakim Soria, who is coming back from elbow surgery. ''Once we signed Joakim, we held back from making other proposals to relievers right now, just `til we know what's going on with the rest of the club,'' Daniels said. ''It's still an area that we need to continue to address, and that's why we tried to do it a little on the cheaper side while we look at some of these other things.''

Koji Uehara and the Boston Red Sox Agree to a One-Year Deal

The dismantling of the Texas Rangers bullpen continues.  Koji Uehara has signed with the Boston Red Sox, meaning the Rangers will have lost or will likely lose, Joe Nathan, Mike Adams, and Uehara at minimum.  That's a big blow to any bullpen, but the signing is favorable for the Red Sox. Gordon Edes of ESPN Boston says Uehara and the Red Sox have agreed to a one-year...

Rangers should be ashamed for way they have treated Michael Young

So much has been made of players who have become distractions while asking to be traded. For the most part, these players have acted in a selfish way to get out of places they do not want to be. Little to no regard is intended for the team the player is currently playing for. Other times teams are simply looking to dump payroll because they cannot afford the higher...

Shane Victorino and Platoon Panic

We have already run two pieces on Shane Victorino since he signed his new contract with Boston by Eno here and by Michael Barr at RotoGraphs. They are both fine pieces in their own right, but one issue that needs more discussion is Victorino’s platoon split. As people noted elsewhere in the signing’s aftermath (and analyzed in some detail earlier this season by Jack Moore),...

MLB Rumors: Will Boston Red Sox Trade Jacoby Ellsbury To Philadelphia Phillies For Cliff Lee?

The Boston Red Sox will trade Jacoby Ellsbury after signing Shane Victorino to a three year contract worth $39 million. That is the new trendy deal with Boston, having already signed Mike Napoli to the same contract. Now, while the Red Sox are saying that Victorino will likely play right field in 2013 while Ellsbury enters his final year of his contract with the Red Sox, it is now...

Sources: Rangers trade Michael Young to Philadelphia Phillies

The Texas Rangers have traded Michael Young to the Philadelphia Phillies, according to major-league sources. The trade was first reported by Bob Nightengale of USA Today. The Rangers will get right-handed pitchers Josh Lindblom and Lisalverto Bonilla, according to reports. Young had a five-year, $80 million deal with the Rangers through the 2013 season and a full no-trade clause...

Report: Rangers, Phillies discussing Young

The Texas Rangers and Philadelphia Phillies are discussing a trade involving Michael Young, multiple sources told The Dallas Morning News. A source said Texas would have to absorb some of the $16 million owed to Young in 2013. Young must approve any deal, a right he's earned as a 10-5 player (10 years in the majors, at least five with the same team). Young, 36, could see...

Pedro Martinez: “Just A Matter Of Time” Before Rejoining Sox

According to WEEI’s Rob Bradford, former Red Sox pitcher Pedro Martinez is set to rejoin the organization in an official working capacity at some point in the near future. While speaking at the David Ortiz Celebrity Golf Classic in Punta Cana, Martinez stated that “it’s just a matter of time” before he returns to Boston in a role similar to the one recently given to his former...

Didn't we go through this just a copule years ago? This year, it sounds like the possibilties of Michael Young coming to the Phillies might be much better. Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News says that the Phillies and the Rangers are in "advanced" talks in a trade that...

Red Sox Filling Holes at Winter Meetings, But Starting Pitching Remains Most Glaring Need

It’s clearly been a busy offseason for the Red Sox, and it’s not even Christmas. Yet, as they address their many glaring needs, the most glaring of all still stands out. Sure, the Red Sox have added their power-hitting first baseman by agreeing to a three-year deal with Mike Napoli. They’ve also addressed the corner outfield situation by nabbing Shane Victorino and Jonny Gomes...

Michael Young to the Phillies is gaining steam

The Philadelphia Phillies may be getting close to filling their hole at third base, and it's from a source you may have not expected: the Texas Rangers. The Rangers and Phillies are apparently discussing a trade that would send long-time Ranger (and classy, professional hitter) Michael Young to Philly in exchange for a "young major league reliever and a low level prospect...

The Red Sox continue spending big money in average talent

That’s two. Two very average role players signed by the Boston Red Sox. Each making over $10 million duckets a year (Speaking of ducket. Remember TJ Ducket? AVERAGE). It was just four months ago that the Red Sox were posting their own Craigslist-apolooza fire sale. These moves don’t even suggest some sort of moneyball type [...]

Red Sox get RHP Godfrey to complete trade with A's

The Boston Red Sox have obtained right-hander Graham Godfrey from the Oakland Athletics, completing a trade for right-hander Sandy Rosario. Godfrey was 9-2 with a 3.29 ERA and one save last season with Triple-A Sacramento. He started the year with Oakland and appeared in five games, going 0-4 with a 6.43 ERA.
