RHP Kyle Davies was finally released today by the Kansas City Royals. The move has been years overdue.
The right-hander was recently placed on the 15-day DL with reoccurring shoulder problems resulting in continuing ineffectiveness as a MLB starter.
Inexplicably, Davies has been allowed to start 144 MLB games posting a career 5.59 ERA/1.62 WHIP in 768 innings. The Royals even briefly instituted a six-man rotation to allow Davies to continue making his starts!
Davies has the lowest quality start percentage (32.6%) for any pitcher with 100 or more starts edging LHP John Halama for the dubious honor.
The former Atlanta Braves hurler was traded to the Royals in July 2007 for journeyman RHP Octavio Dotel.
Charlie Morton had the honor of worst starting pitcher in the league before remaking himself into Roy Halladay 2.0 this season.
Davies ERA+ of 77 in just awful! I suppose if pitchers such as Jo-Jo Reyes and Doug Davis can resurface anything is possible.
