When Los Angeles Angels starting pitcher Scott Kazmir stepped onto the mound for the start of his latest outing against the Milwaukee Brewers on Thursday afternoon, progress was expected, especially after a self-described three month “boot camp” during the offseason at the Angels training complex in Arizona. After Kazmir walked off the mound at the end of the fifth inning on Thursday afternoon, many were left wondering just exactly what Kazmir worked on during his offseason conditioning program. The results from yesterday’s outing looked eerily similar to what was seen from Kazmir during most of last season, when he finished with a 9-15 record with a 5.94 earned run average, and a complete lack of trust in both his fastball and his signature slider. Kazmir tried to put a spin on yesterday’s performance, chalking up his bad outing to a bit of bad luck.
