After watching Josh Hamilton sign with their division rival, the Rangers made a move this weekend to replace his bat in their line-up, signing Lance Berkman to take over as their DH for 2013. Much is being made of the fact that Berkman got $11 million after spending basically the entire 2012 sea...

  • Yes he is often hurt and looking for a paycheck. Bad signing by the Rangers doubt if he finishes the season with them.
  • Berkman is a little older than Hamilton, and costs about half of what the Angles will pay Hamilton. Berkman has been steady many seasons as far as staying in the lineup, but not last year. If he can hit from the lefthand side well in their park he could be a decent replacement for Hamilton. Hamilton is lefthanded, and hit well there. The fact that he switch hits will help him stay in the lineup against top lefties, but very few guys can hit like JH does when he is hot. I think Berkman for 1 season is a good deal for himself and the Rangers. IMO if Berkman can stay healthy he may put up numbers comparible to what Hamilton will with the LAA, because Hamilton hasn't been overwhelming there in the past.
