Lance Berkman may play in 2013. The 36-year-old met with Jim Crane last week and according to the new owner of the Houston Astros has “expressed some interest in maybe working a deal out.”
Berkman is still rehabbing from knee surgery so lets not place the cart before the horse here. Further, if a contending team was interested in Berkman they could lure him with the possibility of another World Series ring.
“We haven’t gotten to that (discuss contract). I think his knee is still up in the air. So we got to get that all worked out. It was a get-acquainted meeting, really” Crane said. “I think he has an interest.”
“All of that will depend on his knee and probably the price, if he get any other offers or what. If all that works out, and there are a lot of ifs there, possibly he could do some DHing (designated hitter) for us.”
Berkman spent parts of 12 seasons with the Astors. Last season he appeared in 32 games with the St. Louis Cardinals before injuring his knee.
