Lesson #1: Duck the Fodgers

I’m a little worried about the state of the Giants going into the season’s first meeting with the first-place Dodgers.  (Ew.)

But then again, the Dodgers have lost three of four, and two of those losses came against the Cubs.

Hopefully the Dodgers play down to that level we know they stay at.

What Sandoval’s injury means to the rest of the Giants’ lineup: where does Belt fit in?

Since Pablo Sandoval broke his left hand, the Giants have taken then necessary steps in order to fill the massive gap that is his bat. First off, Brian Sabean and company  brought up the only other pure third baseman in the organization, Conor Gillaspie, form Fresno. So far in the four games he has played in, Gillaspie hasn’t shown the Giants home crowd very much to look forward...

Postgame Wrap: The Smoking Gun

Watching Matt Cain’s starts is always something of a surreal experience. He doesn’t have the Tim Lincecum windmill delivery, or the Barry Zito crazy curviness, or even the Madison Bumgarner lazy-arm snap that makes hitters look silly. No, Cain doesn’t have a gimmick. He doesn’t throw 96 mph, he doesn’t have a curve ball that moves 10 feet, and he doesn’t have crazy ninja...

Guillermo Mota Suspended 100 Games for PED Use

Guillermo Mota will face a 100-game suspension after testing positive for Clenbuterol, a drug that apparently has aerobic benefits, reports Jon Morosi. This is the second time Mota has been suspended for PEDs, as he served 50 games back in 2006 when he was with the New York Mets. Mota is appealing his suspension, according to Andrew Baggarly, but because he’s a second-time offender...

SF Giants Rumors: Mays Birthday, Pagan/Sandoval Record, Beat LA

The San Francisco Giants were able to salvage the home-stand by winning 2-out-3 from the Brewers. Yesterday was the living legend’s (Willie Mays) birthday. It was a great game to be in attendance and sing happy birthday to the man that once scored from first base on a base hit to left field, with no error on the play!   Hit Streak Angel Pagan has a career high 20-game hitting...

Giants' Mota plans to fight 100-game suspension

Clenbuterol or children's cough medicine? Either way, San Francisco Giants reliever Guillermo Mota was suspended 100 games for testing positive for Clenbuterol, according to Major League Baseball, but Mota swears it was cough medicine. Mota's agent, Adam Katz, said Mota simply took cough medicine with a tiny amount of the banned substance. Katz said the suspension is...

Giants pitcher Mota suspended 100 games for PEDs

Giants pitcher Guillermo Mota has been suspended 100 games by Major League baseball for his second violation of the league's drug policy. Projecting the Series: Giants vs. Dodgers

The first Giants vs. Dodgers series of the season and it comes with even more meaning as the Dodgers are currently leading the NL West over the second place Giants.  The Giants are coming off a nine game home stand where they managed to go .500 but really didn't play well and sandwiched between series wins against the Padres and Brewers was a brutal sweep at the...

Pinch-hit single lifts Giants to 11-inning win over Brewers

SAN FRANCISCO -- The San Francisco Giants are accustomed to playing close games. "I guess you get used to it," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. "I mean, that's our way, and it's been that way for a while. It's invaluable experience for these guys to play games like this where every pitch, every play, every at-bat counts. In the long run, the players become...

Guillermo Mota suspended 100 games for PED use

Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports is reporting that San Francisco Giants reliever Guillermo Mota has been suspended 100 games for testing positive for clenbuterol. This is Mota's second suspension under the MLB's drug policy. His first suspension came after the 2006 season, when Mota was with the Mets, and sidelined him for the first 50 games of the 2007 season. Clenbuterol...

Pitching, Defense Falter in 9-1 Loss to Dodgers

…and that was the low point in the season. So far, that is. Barry Zito, to his credit, did fifth starter things — which is to say, he was good enough. Three runs in six innings. His strikeout-to-walk ratio is nearing sub-1.00 territory, but that seems like the least of the Giants’ problems right now. Brett Pill is not a left fielder. Conor Gillaspie isn’t much of a third...

Brewers search for positives Sunday vs. Giants

By MATT BEARDMORE, STATS WriterMatt Cain has been spectacular at AT&T Park this season. A little run support could help the San Francisco Giants right-hander get back into the win column. Cain will try to avoid losing a third consecutive start Sunday when the host Giants finish their series against the banged-up Milwaukee Brewers.Eleventh in the NL last season with a 2.80 home...

POSTGAME RECAP: Uno De Mayo

I was aware of the streak. The fact never escaped me that the Giants hadn’t led in a game since before Lady Bird Johnson was a sexual position. And with a 1-0 deficit early in the game, it appeared I may have to turn the “We’re Going Streaking” section into an exercise in futility. Not today. 3-10 with runners in scoring position. Posey singles with a runner on third and...

San Francisco Wins Battle of ’07 Multiple Draft Picks

The 2007 amateur draft was an exciting time if you were a fan of the San Diego Padres, the San Francisco Giants, the Texas Rangers or the Toronto Blue Jays. Each organization had at least five picks before the second round, thanks to supplemental picks obtained for the losses of free agents the previous winter. It’s been five years since that draft, so it’s a good time to look...
