Reds starting pitcher Mat Latos had arthroscopic surgery on his right elbow to remove bone chips on Oct. 11 per MLB.com's Reds beat writer Mark Sheldon. Latos 25 was 14-7 with a 3.16 ERA 1.21 WHIP and 187 strikeouts in 210 2/3 innings this season his second for the Reds. He was set to start in the wild-card game against the Pirates but soreness in his elbow was the impetus for now-fired manager Dusty Baker to go with Johnny Cueto instead. Cueto would be knocked around in 3 1/3 innings and the Reds were bounced from the playoffs losing 6-2. Anyway Latos is already going through physical therapy and is expected to be fully recovered by the time spring training rolls around.
