Ruf’s first major league home run against the Washington Nationals, a glimpse at the future? The power that was shown by Ruf in fisting the ball out of the park, the added power we need next season. Whether or not Ruf will be that guy should be decided during the winter. Winter ball for Ruf will turn him into the new better Pat Burrell. Better because Ruf is a hitter, fighting off a pitch the same game, Ruf’s single was equally as impressive. His attitude at the plate in his short stint is not to be always swinging for the fences, as he also has shown in the minors this year.
Imagine, 3o some home runs and a batting average over .300? Sounds like Albert Pujols numbers doesn’t it? Yes he hasn’t had too many at bats in the BIGS and let’s temper the excitement, yeah, yeah. The only disappointment I have is that we are just getting the chance to see him. The left-fielder of the future, we have him and we all should know it, including Ruben Amaro.Similar Posts:

Each Friday, we will post a reader story from our “Why I Love the Phillies” contest.
Why I love the Phillies, well it’s quite simple. I love the Phillies because it’s a major connection to my family and from where my family came from.
My everyone in my family has been devoted Phillies fans since 1918, the year that my grandfather, Anthony, was born. He grew up loving the...
This is one of the best and cruelest jokes I have seen in a professional setting. Imagine you are a rookie, just like Phillies’ outfielder Darin Ruf, and you just smashed your first home run. You would expect your teammates to go ballistic, high-fives everywhere, and more smiles than you could hope for. This would seem like a natural reaction. However, last night when Darin...
Philadelphia Phillies prospect Darin Ruf hit his first Homerun in the second inning of tonight’s Phillies Nationals game.
This exclusive video includes his entire at bat and his teammates ignoring him as he came around the bases and into the dugout.
Darin Ruf ignited the offense for the Philadelphia Phillies to keep the flame of postseason hope burning. Is there a divine intervention in the vault?

Two mighty teams have tumbled from supremacy this season, the Philadelphia Phillies and the Boston Red Sox. Each team has been winning for the better part of the last decade, but has fallen upon hard times this season due to injuries and bad contracts. How about helping each other out?To Boston- Ryan Howard and his 4 years and $105M remaining on his contract. To Philly- John...
The Philadelphia Phillies are winding toward the conclusion of this largely disappointing season. In a couple of games, maybe even 1, the Phillies will be eliminated from postseason play for the first time since 2006. It was a good run. But is it over? That is one of several questions facing Phillies brass as they move toward next season.
The Phillies will deem this offseason as...
The fact that Nationals came into last night’s game with the best record in baseball was simply fuel for the Phillies fire who were determined to give their Division rival a tough time. Nats pitching got Ruf’d up by the Phillies who homered 3 times in the game and won by a score of 6-3.
Carlos Ruiz smashed a 2-run shot in the 3rd and Domonic Brown added another homer in the 6th...
A quick update on Phillies starter Roy Halladay. Despite looking really off during his last start and being skipped in the rotation, Roy Halladay will pitch again this season. Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports that Halladay will start on Saturday:
Dubee said Halladay looked fine in his bullpen. He expects him to start Saturday as scheduled.
Of course, had he really been...
In doing an end-of-year Phillies story, I found one glaring statistic that spells out the 2012 season.
Only John Mayberry Jr. and Jimmy Rollins have more than 400 at bats. Mayberry had 425 and Rollins, playing all year, had 621.
You know what that tells me? Injury played a big role in the season and time to get younger, even if it means no championships.
From the core of Howard,...
Tyler Cloyd of the Philadelphia Phillies is their newest rotation member. How do other recent additions in the NL East match up with him? The Apocalyptic Horsemen Stats are in my recent coverage linked below.

As they cling to the final arrow in their quiver, the Philadelphia Phillies and Jimmy Rollins are running out of battles. However, did anybody expect a postseason shot this late in the year?

It has more to do with the bad cold I've been fighting all week than the quality of baseball (I'll watch anyone play the sport, no matter how brutal) but I've shut every game off early this week with an idea how they'd all end. What can you say? They made it interesting but when they had a real chance to make it interesting, they fell short. The winter should...

Video above (via MLB.com) of Bryce Harper's 2-run home run off Kyle Kendrick in the first inning of Kendrick's BP session Wednesday night in Philly. Just home run #20 for Harper, no biggie.
Oh, and Harper just became an uncle -- and so MASN's F.P. Santangelo coined the new moniker "Uncle Bryce":
