DETROIT-- Tigers manager Jim Leyland and reliever Luke Putkonen were ejected in the sixth inning of Thursday's game after both benches and bullpens emptied onto the field. The cause of the fracas was Putkonen's throw behind White Sox shortstop Alexei Ramirez after Josh Phegley hit a grand slam off starter Anibal Sanchez. Ramirez immediately had to be held back by catcher Brayan Pena, which is when the benches cleared and the relievers came in from the bullpens. An incensed Leyland came out to the field three times to yell at home plate umpire Chad Fairchild and first base umpire and crew chief Jeff Kellogg. Leyland's argument seemed to be that Putkonen shouldn't have been ejected because no warnings were issued earlier when Chris Sale brushed back Prince Fielder after Miguel Cabrera's home run in the fifth. Leyland made his third trip when he saw that Ramirez hadn't been ejected and was staying in to bat against Al Alburquerque. Ramirez singled but the...
