Alex Avila's recovery from a concussion has hit a snag. Tigers manager Jim Leyland revealed Friday night that Avila left Thursday's rehab game with Toledo after only three innings with a headache. Avila felt fine on Thursday, but the decision was made to leave him out of the Mud Hens' game in Louisville. "Well just take it slow for a day and then see how it plays out and get him back into action," Leyland told the media in New York. If Avila remains symptom-free, he could play Saturday at designated hitter, but the Tigers plan to take things as slowly as needed. Along with knowing the experiences of players from other sports like Sidney Crosby and Jahvid Best, Detroit just finished a series where they faced Justin Morneau, who missed much of the 2010 and 2011 seasons because of concussions. "A concussion is nothing to mess around with -- believe me, I know," Morneau said earlier this week after his teammate Joe Mauer joined Avila on the 7-day concussion list. "Your instincts are to play through it, just like you do with anything else. You think that you are a little dizzy or a little lightheaded, but it isn't a big deal. It's just another injury, but then you get another one, and you end up in a situation like I had."
