Former Phillies Pitcher Jamie Moyer became the oldest pitcher to win a game in MLB history last night. Moyer, now with the Colorado Rockies, was 49 years and 150 days old.

History was made today in Denver. Jamie Moyer, member of the 2008 World Series Champion Phillies, became the oldest pitcher to ever record a win in the history of Major League Baseball. At 49 years and 150 days old, Moyer pitched 7 strong innings, allowing just 6 hits and 2 unearned runs.

Using his trademarked brand of patient game planning, Moyer forced the Padres into three double plays in 7 innings, mostly off his deceptive cut fastball that tops out a staggering 79 miles per hour. While he may not pack a lot of heat in that left arm Jamie more than makes up for it by hitting his spots and forcing batters to make poor decisions. It is a formula that has boded well for the ageless wonder, garnering him a spot in the starting rotation for the Rockies after taking a year off to rehab some ligament damage in his throwing elbow.

Moyer surpassed former record holder Jack Quinn by 80 days. Quinn, a spitballer that was handy with the bat as well as his arm, recorded his last victory on September 13th, 1932. Needless to say, breaking a record that has stood almost 80 full years is no small feat. It has been announced that memorabilia from today’s game like Jamie’s jersey and cleats will be displayed at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, NY.

We would like to display our hometown pride to Jamie Moyer, a Philadelphia area native and hometown favorite, for his fantastic accomplishment. This honor is well deserved and couldn’t have happened to a better person. We wish him the best in everything he does, except when he pitches against the Phillies. Congratulations, Jamie.
