After trading away lefties Mike Dunn and Phil Coke earlier this preseason, the Yankees were lacking in left-handed relief. One potential solution to that problem lies in Boone Logan, the left-handed reliever acquired in the recent trade for Javier Vazquez.
Logan, traded for the second time in his career in a package with Vazquez, has seen success at the Major League level, but has also shown the inability to maintain consistency. In his career, he has posted a 5.78 earned run average and left-handed batters have found relative success against the former Brave, batting .266. He’s never posted a WHIP below 2.56 and averages 11.1 hits per inning in his career.
Logan, however, has spent much of his career “learning on the job”, having found himself pitching in the 2006 World Series Champion White Sox bullpen after limited time (5 1/3 innings) in rookie ball.
