ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Evan Longoria homered twice, Tampa Bay roughed up Matt Harrison and the Rays beat the Texas Rangers 8-4 Wednesday night to snap a four-game losing streak. After dropping the last two against the AL-West leading Rangers by one run, the Rays avoided the three-game sweep. Harrison (15-8) allowed seven runs and 12 hits in 5 1-3 innings. He took a no-hitter into the seventh and permitted two hits in eight shutout innings in his last outing Friday night against Minnesota. Tampa Bay had scored only 11 runs during their losing skid before breaking out for 16 hits against Texas. Longoria hit a two-run homer in the first and a solo shot in the ninth. B.J. Upton had a three-run home run and Elliot Johnson added a solo blast. Jeff Keppinger went 4 for 5 and Ben Zobrist had three hits for the Rays. Jake McGee (5-2) pitched a perfect sixth and five Tampa Bay relievers combined for 4 1-3 scoreless innings. Josh Hamilton hit his 36th home run for Texas,...

Maddon's Rays have similar vibe to Rangers

ARLINGTON, Texas-- One has won American League Manager of the Year honors twice over the last four seasons and led his team to its first-ever World Series while the other guided his club to back-to-back American League championships, the first two pennants in franchise history. The parties in question here are Tampa Bay manager Joe Maddon and Texas manager Ron Washington. Not only...

Maddon goes to 'pen early, often to salvage finale at Texas

Usually, Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon doesn't put more importance on any one game than another. But it was obvious how crucial winning Wednesday's game was, and avoiding a sweep by Texas, as he had the bullpen warming in the third inning and pulled starter Alex Cobb in the fifth as an early 6-0 lead started to slip away. Using six pitchers, Tampa Bay held on for...

Rangers can’t finish sweep of Rays

I think the Rangers are allergic to sweeping.  Or maybe they just want to lull the rest of the league into submission.  I don’t know, but I’d like to see more sweeps.  Sweeps are fun. But apparently my boys don’t enjoy them.  Scott Feldman spoiled the one of Minnesota on Sunday, and Matt Harrison did the damage in tonight’s game against the Rays. It really just wasn...

Sweaty Rangers fan got a little emotional in the 9th inning (Video)

Your browser does not support iframes. I’m not sure there was anyone at the Ballpark in Arlington on Monday night who wanted a win more than this guy. This Rangers fan was hooting and hollering to the point where both the people next to them were full of embarrassment during the 9th inning of Texas’ 6-5 win over the Rays. I was trying to figure out if this guy was so emotional...

Texas Rangers fan gets emotional during final out (Video)

There are many people you meet in life that wear their emotions on their sleeves and it appears that one Texas Rangers fan caught by television got a little emotional near the end of Tuesday night's victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. Watch as this fan starts screaming for the final out and has a little bit of an emotional moment on live television: Your browser does not...

Rested bullpen is key to Rangers' plans

All season, the Texas Rangers' bullpen has been an extreme asset for the club. The team is taking every precaution to insure that advantage exists deep into the playoffs. By adding pitchers, giving others extended rest and by being judicious with everybody's usage, the Rangers enter their series with the Cleveland Indians on Friday with just 105 relief innings since the...

Rays-Blue Jays Preview

Outstanding pitching has been the theme of the second half for the Tampa Bay Rays, but it was the offense that helped them avoid a season-high fifth straight loss. Matt Moore has generally received a nice boost from the Rays' bats - even though he's rarely needed it of late. Moore has allowed seven runs in his last six starts, and he'll try to win a fifth straight decision...

In Toronto, the Rays seek to avoid a letdown

They could easily have become Texas Toast, watching their recent wild-card run and division-title hopes burn to a crisp with a prolonged losing streak. Instead, the Tampa Bay Rays popped out just in time with a crucial 8-4 victory over the Rangers on Wednesday night a win that snapped a four-game slide and allowed them to take a bite out of the first-place Yankees AL East lead...

Darvish strikes out 10 as Rangers beat Rays

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) -- Yu Darvish struck out 10 over seven innings for the Texas Rangers to win a 1-0 pitchers' duel against James Shields and the Tampa Bay Rays on Tuesday night. Ian Kinsler homered to give Texas enough against the suddenly sliding Rays, who have lost four in a row, had runners on base in each of the first five innings against Darvish (13-9) and still couldn...

Rays get top mark in list of smart spending

The Tampa Bay Rays are still hoping to make a run at the AL East title, but for now they can content themselves with leading a different set of standings. Bloomberg Businessweeks second annual list of smartest spenders in sports ranks the Rays No.1 out of 122 pro franchises in MLB, the NFL, NBA and NHL. The list is the handiwork of Businessweek reporter Ira Boudway, who used regular...

Oswalt clears waivers, no date for Napoli return

ARLINGTON, Texas Rangers pitcher Roy Oswalt told local reporters Tuesday he's been aware he had cleared waivers for several weeks. Ken Rosenthal of foxsports.com reported earlier in the day that Oswalt cleared waivers and suggested the Dodgers as a potential trade partner. Oswalt did not express desire to be traded, but he's made no secret that he is not happy being in...

Rangers-Indians Preview

The Texas Rangers are coming off a much-needed day off. Facing the rested AL West leaders is the last thing the Cleveland Indians need. The Rangers' Ryan Dempster looks for a third straight impressive start Friday night as he tries to extend the Indians' longest home losing streak of 2012. Coming off a 7-3 stretch in Arlington, Texas (77-53) begins its 10-game trip with...

Fantasy Baseball Late Season Pickups

Late Season Fantasy Baseball Pickups Fantasy Football has taken over but I'm still very much in contention for a fantasy baseball title in 4 out of my 5 leagues. We won't talk about the other league. Especially when that team deals with Evan Longoria, Matt Kemp and Giancarlo Stanton injuries all year. But we're not going to talk about that today. If...

Dodgers passing on Oswalt?

It’s widely known that the Los Angeles Dodgers are searching for more starting pitching. According to Jon Heyman there’s one pitcher that the team isn’t that high on and that’s Roy Oswalt. A couple months ago Oswalt was someone that was highly sought after unfortunately that changed once he started to pitch. @JonHeymanCBS: #dodgers person didnt seem that enthused about...
