TEAMS: Boston Red Sox
As quiet as the Red Sox were at the Winter Meetings, they did manage to sign one player during the event. Relax Boston sports fans, our issues at closer, right field and in the rotation have been solved, we have Jesse Carlson. Wait, what? Ok, maybe not.
Boston inked ex-Blue Jay reliever Jesse Carlson to a split contract, giving him the chance to compete for a spot in the Red Sox bullpen. This move is not going to compete for headlines against the Angels or the Marlins, but it is potential important. Last off-season,Boston had plenty of headline grabbing moments, but the signings of Alfredo Aceves and Matt Albers are not typically listed among them. Those deals were key in building a bullpen that ranked first in fWAR for relievers and forth in FIP. The Carlson signing may be of similar impact in 2012.
Despite the success of the bullpen in 2011, the Red Sox were distinctly thin in left handed relief. The Sox used Rich Hill, Franklin Morales, Randy Williams, Andrew Miller and Hide...

Clay Buchholz Player Projection No.
Key Stats: Clay Buchholz did not have the follow up to his breakout 2010 that many were expecting. He did not throw a ball after June 16th, but was close to ready as the Red Sox were collapsing in late September. In eight of his nine last starts, Buchholz gave up three or fewer runs. That's an indication that while he could not deal with the pain in his back, the ability that...
Taxing issue for Red Sox in offseason
The Boston Red Sox are in a box.
A box that might prevent them from signing free-agent closer Ryan Madson, reduce their leverage in trade talks for Oakland Athletics closer Andrew Bailey and temper their pursuits of free-agent outfielder Carlos Beltran and Japanese right-hander Yu Davish.
A box that is motivating them to explore trading shortstop Marco Scutaro and might even compel...
All Quiet on the Red Sox Front
The winter meetings concluded Friday without a singe major transaction coming out of the Boston Red Sox camp. The Sox front office did manage to re-secure the services of star DH David Ortiz and land a potential useful lefty reliever in Jesse Carlson, but the team did not make anything that could be consider a headlining move. According to the press in attendance at the event, GM...
Dwight Evans: Hall of Fame Individual
Dwight Evans is one of the most beloved players in Red Sox history. Known for his class and dignity almost as much as for what he did on the field, the man affectionately known as “Dewey” played more games in a Red Sox uniform than anyone except Carl Yastrzemski. A member of the star-crossed 1975 and 1986 teams, he also played in some of Boston’s most-memorable games.

The Great Unnecessarily Secretive Fenway Yard Sale
Got my tix online in the morning, then got in the car and drove to Boston. Got my Anna's and went over to Lansdowne Street around noon. At the entrance to the Yard Sale, I was told I needed my winning e-mail to get in, which, of course, I didn't have since I didn't win. So I asked the guy if they planned on opening it to the public. He said, "they haven't yet...
For starters, Valentine keeps Bard options open
Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said Daniel Bard, who projected to be the team’s closer after the departure of Jonathan Papelbon to the Philadelphia Phillies, would likely be prepped as a starter during spring training. Valentine said Bard seemed receptive to the idea, but left open the possibility of utilizing him as a closer.
Bobby Valentine happy to return to the majors
DALLAS -- Bobby Valentine wasted little time endearing himself to Boston Red Sox fans during the winter meetings. He summed up his feelings about the New York Yankees rather succinctly.
