Los Angeles Angels Announce Brutal Injury News For Mike Trout
Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports

Not much has gone right for the Los Angeles Angels over the last few years. Despite having two of the most dominant players in baseball Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout on their roster, they had very little to show for it.

With both of them on the roster, the Angels made zero playoff appearances despite each of them putting up all-world statistics. Individual accolades and awards rolled in regularly, but the team experienced no success.

With Ohtani moving on in free agency during the 2023 offseason, and joining the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Angels became a one-man show with Trout. Once again, the team success has not been there as Los Angeles is 11-19 through 30 games.

To make matters worse, their best player is now going to be absent for the foreseeable future. It was announced this week that Trout will be sidelined because he suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee that will require surgery.

No timetable has been given about when Trout could get back on the field. But, the best case scenario according to sources familiar with the situation, via Alden Gonzalez of ESPN, is Trout will miss 4-to-6 weeks.

Once Trout undergoes surgery and doctors can take a look at his knee, a timetable for his return can become clear. The operation is expected to take place later this week. Unfortunately, this is something the Angels have gotten used to in recent years as their superstar has been unable to stay on the field consistently.

“It’s just frustrating,” Trout said, getting choked up. “But we’ll get through it.”

Trout has played in triple-digit games only once in the last five seasons. He is the second high-profile player to head to the injured list for the Angels as Anthony Rendon is dealing with a “high-grade partial tear” in his left hamstring.

Through 29 games, Trout had a slash line of .220/.325/.541. He had a major-league-best 10 home runs but only 14 RBIs, as his Angels teammates are having just as hard of a time of getting on base ahead of him.
