The Angels are heating up out westCredit: AP/Orlin Wagner Don’t look now, but the Los Angeles Angels have won 7 straight coming into Sunday’s game, and are starting to look like the team that many pundits put on the short list for the American League pennant.  To boot, they’ll likely get their ace Jered Weaver back this next week after a successful bullpen session this past Friday.  Albert Pujols is renown for warming up in the summer months and the ownership is likely to make any move they can should the team look competitive in the standings by July.  Don’t count this team out yet. During the 7-game winning streak, the Angels have scored 5 or more runs in every game, while only allowing more than 4 runs once.    Leading the hitting has been Mike Trout, who has been stuffing the daily box scores with 11 hits, 5 for extra bases, 4 stolen bases and 10 runs, all leading the team.  Not to mention a cycle to boot.  Josh Hamilton has started to thaw some of that winter chill that has hampered his bat with 2 HR and an OPS of 1.090. The pitching staff has elevated their game, as well, with an ERA below 2.00 and a batting average against hovering around .200.  The only exception has been their closer Ernesto Frieri, who has been touched up and remains a question for the Angels going forward. It’s also worth noting that the Halos haven’t played a game against a team currently with a winning record since May 5 (Baltimore) as they’ve finished a stretch of battles with the Chicago White Sox, Seattle Mariners, Kansas City Royals, and Houston Astros.  Their light schedule continues with games against the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Astros, and Chicago Cubs to round out a full month of playing sub-.500 teams. The Angels remain about 10 games behind the Texas Rangers, who have run ahead of expected contenders like the Angels and Oakland A’s.  But let’s not forget.  It’s just Memorial Day, and there’s well over 100 games left to play. -David Whitlock (@lhd_on_sports) Follow us on Twitter @rbts_baseball The post Los Angeles Angels are surging, starting to look dangerous appeared first on Reading Between The Seams.
