By Scott Stedman - Prospect Reporter Salt Lake Bees - The Salt Lake Bees were battling in a pitcher's duel, until scoring twice in the 9th to secure a 2-1 victory. Garrett Richards toed the slab for the Bees, and he threw a beauty. Richards worked into the 7th, going 6.1 innings, conceding just 1 run and punching out 8. The most impressive stat for Richards was the 8-0 ground ball to fly ball ratio. You read that right, he didn't allow one fly ball all night. That is a very important factor in the Pacific Coast League where the ball can really fly. 24 year old closer Ryan Braiser pitched 2 perfect innings, striking out 2. I imagine the Angels will promote Brasier sometime this year if he continues to throw the ball well for Salt Lake. In the 9th inning, a pair of solo home runs by Ryan Langerhans and Jorge Cantu lifted the Bees to victory. Matt Shoemaker is the scheduled pitcher for Wednesday. Arkansas Travelers - It's tough to find any positives out...

Angels believe in Iannetta's bat

It's no coincidence that Jerry Dipoto's first personnel moves as the Angels' general manager last fall were to trade for Chris Iannetta and trade away Jeff Mathis. The catching position -- so near and dear to manager Mike Scioscia's heart -- had become a black hole in the Angels' lineup. Mathis, Bobby Wilson and rookie Hank Conger combined for a .192 average...

Wells eager to move past slow start

MINNEAPOLIS -- Baseball is not always a thinking man's game, and maybe that's why Vernon Wells is already struggling for the Angels. He's 2 for 14, has struck out five times and comes to the ballpark every day unsure if he's in the starting lineup. Baseball is a game where you're better off reacting -- see a pitch, hit it. Players often like to tinker with their...

Angels' Kohn to miss rest of season

Los Angeles Angels right-hander Michael Kohn needs elbow ligament-replacement surgery and will miss the rest of the season.. The Angels made the announcement on Wednesday after Kohn visited orthopedist Dr. James Andrews. Kohn is scheduled to have the surgery on Thursday. Kohn was shut down with elbow discomfort in spring training, but started a throwing program last week in hopes...

Los Angeles Angels Prospect Report - 4-11-12

By Scott Stedman - Prospect Reporter Salt Lake Bees: The Bees blew out the Reno Aces, 11-3 on a night in which snow was falling on the field.  Matt Shoemaker started for the Bees and turned in a productive start - 5.1 innings, 2 runs, 3 strikeouts.  Shokemaker has only walked 2 batters in his 11.1 innings so far this year.  Offensively, things...

Angels' Bourjos hits inside-the-park home run

Los Angeles Angels center fielder Peter Bourjos hit an inside-the-park home run in Wednesday night's game at Target Field against the Minnesota Twins. It happened in the top of the fifth inning with two men on base. Bourjos hit a deep fly ball to left field. Twins left fielder Josh Willingham looked to be in position to make the catch, but the ball was just over the outstretched...

C.J. Wilson is proving he belongs

Jered Weaver is the man, don’t get me wrong.  He’s the #1 in the rotation no questions asked.  But what a luxury it is to have C.J. Wilson there as the #4 or whatever he really is in the rotation.  After losing the first series of the year to the Royals the Angels needed a win big-time in the opener against the Twins and Wilson delivered despite having a few things working...

Game Recap 4/11/12: Circus in town, one night and one night only - Twins 6, Angels 5

Let me begin with, that didn't go as planned. Twins 6, Angels 5What we saw last night wasn't exactly a comdey of errors, because the Angels were playing decent ball up until the Twins' 7th inning offensive stretch. As I mentioned in the preview for last night's game, hitting is contagious. Unless there is that one play that will shut down a team's rally for the...

Bourjos hits inside-the-park HR vs. Twins

Los Angeles Angels speedster Peter Bourjos hit an inside-the-park home run against the Minnesota Twins. After the Angels fell behind 3-1 in the fourth inning, Bourjos came to the plate with two on and two out in the fifth. He hit a rocket to left on the first pitch, and Josh Willingham slammed into the wall trying to track it down. As center fielder Denard Span came over to pick...

Angels RHP Kohn to have Tommy John surgery

Los Angeles Angeles reliever Michael Kohn will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery. Kohn will have the procedure Thursday after he was diagnosed with a torn elbow ligament by Dr. James Andrews. The 25-year-old Kohn made 14 appearances with the Angels last year, going 0-1 with a 3.70 ERA.

BP Unfiltered: Peter Bourjos vs. Bengie Molina by Sam Miller

What follows is last night's Peter Bourjos inside-the-park home run, which is one of America's great inventions. And also a Bengie Molina triple, from 2010. Same sport!   "I could watch Peter Bourjos run all day!" -- You (14.26 seconds for Bourjos.)

Angels' bitter loss to Twins defies explanation

MINNEAPOLIS - Some losses defy all reasonable explanation. The Angels had one of those games Wednesday night. They had their best pitcher on the mound against a team that had yet to win its first game of the season, they had a two-run lead in the seventh inning, they had favorable pitching matchups and they seemed to be energized by an inside-the-park home run from Peter Bourjos...
