Las Vegas 6, Round Rock 5
Zach Lutz and Wilmer Flores hit solo home runs Thursday for the Las Vegas 51s, helping them take down visiting Round Rock, 6-5.
Lutz, who also homered Wednesday, started the scoring in the second inning with a home run to right-center field. The 51s scored two more runs in the frame, on an RBI single from Juan Centeno and another when Eric Campbell scored on a wild pitch. Flores homered in the third inning to give the 51s a 4-0 advantage. After being relatively silent at the plate through the initial six innings, Round Rock batted around in the seventh to score five runs and take the lead, 5-4. But Las Vegas scored two runs in the eighth to win the game, taking the lead on a run-scoring double from Collin Cowgill and an RBI single from Josh Satin.
Chris Schwinden started this game and pitched relatively well, allowing just three earned runs while pitching into the seventh. Greg Peavey vultured the win out of the ‘pen. Greg Burke picked up his second save of...

He homered Valdy Style.
When Jordany Valdespin walloped a ninth-inning homer into the second deck in right field – the “Pepsi Porch” – he flipped his bat and watched the ball soar, not exactly toeing the line on baseball etiquette.
But Valdespin seems unlikely to change. “When you hit the ball, you got to enjoy your hit,” he said. “Every time I hit the ball, homer...
Las Vegas manager Wally Backman believes Zack Wheeler‘s big league promotion could be about two weeks away, according to a report by Adam Rubin on ESPN New York.
“Personally, I think if he has a couple of more starts like his last start he’ll be headed to the big leagues, and rightfully so,” Backman told Las Vegas’ ESPN radio affiliate.
We’ll have our Las Vegas beat...
Among the highs and lows to already come out of the first month of this season, the continued improvement of Daniel Murphy has certainly been one of the brighter spots to this point so far.
Playing out of his natural position, Murphy has slowly made the proper adjustments on both sides of the diamond. After being jostled all over both the infield and outfield, Murphy has finally...

New York collected its fourth walk-off win of the year last night. The Mets are tied for second in the majors with the Giants with their four walk-off victories. Cincinnati is first with five such wins...
The Mets lost a sleeper this evening to the Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 7-3 at a sparsely filled Citi Field.
Shaun Marcum was making his third start of the season for the Mets and once again failed to last five innings. The truth is he’s looked awful every time out there, but tonight was the worst we’ve seen yet.
Marcum, now 0-3, saw his ERA balloon to 8.59 for the season...
The Mets held the White Sox to one hit over 10 innings last night. It was the second 10-inning one-hitter in team history. Terry Leach hurled a 10-inning one hitter on October 1, 1982 at Philadelphia in a game the Mets won, 1-0. Luis Aguayo had a fifth-inning triple in that game. The last 10-inning one-hitter in the majors was May 28, 2011 when the...
Round Rock 9, Las Vegas 5
I am not a mean-spirited guy when it comes to baseball, honestly, but why is Carlos Torres on our AAA team? He was lit up again on Wednesday night for a grand total of nine earned runs over 4+ innings and it was just a really rough performance. He allowed five of those runs in the top of the first alone, capped off by a three-run homer by Jim Adduci....
Because I’m a huge sucker for anything 80′s and especially anything mid-80′s New York Mets, I’ll probably buy Doc: A Memoir and read it within a couple days even though I am already reading a Mickey Mantle book and a Lenny Dykstra book.
I think we’ve all heard the story of Doc Gooden’s morning the day after he became a World Series champion. In case you have not, here...
Center fielder Juan Lagares robbed Andrew McCutchen of a go-ahead hit in the top of the ninth inning, then pinch-hitter Mike Baxter's single in the bottom half sent the New York Mets over the Pittsburgh Pirates 3-2 Thursday night.
Baxter delivered his second winning pinch-hit in three days. His 10th-inning single Tuesday beat the Chicago White Sox.
This time, Baxter batted...
I'll be completely honest with you. I was at the Rangers game tonight. I don't have quite as good a record as Matt Harvey does at Ranger games, but it was a very workmanlike performance by me as the Rangers tied up their series against the Caps 4-3.
(And by workmanlike performance, I mean ... I did nothing to help.)
And I really had the best of intentions to come...
It’s pretty rare that you hype a pitchers duel and it actually happens. It did yesterday. A few dopey Hurdle decisions and maybe the outcome is different. What’s done is done though. Did you hear that Pitt is going to host Penn State in basketball next season? This is awesome news for a formerly huge…
