Baltimore Orioles’ top prospect Manny Machado showed us exactly why he’s their top prospect last night, putting on an impressive display of power in just his second major league game with two home runs and four RBIs. OMGDROPEVERYTHINGANDGOPICKHIMUP!!! Well, not exactly. All the ‘perts say that Machado isn’t MLB-ready, as evidenced by his .266/.350/.431 line in the minors this year. But Machado is projected to be a stud as soon as next year, so… why not this year? He’s already the youngest player ever to have a multi-homer game. In addition, he’s got 2 hits in each of his first two games starting at third base and if he keeps it up he should be batting in the heart of that Baltimore line up in no time. I mean, really, who else do they have? With the Orioles in a battle for a wild card spot (I know, it still sounds weird), Machado could find himself in the race for October and maybe, just maybe, he’s one of the guys that’s going to help get them there. Manny has all the tools (10 HRs,...

Same fan catches both of rookie's home runs

Some critics have called the Orioles "lucky" this season, but that's the only explanation for a fan's good fortune at catching home runs. Batimore rookie and uber-prospect Manny Machado hit his first two career home runs on Friday night and in doing so, became the youngest Oriole since World War I to accomplish that feat. However, the most miraculous part of that...

Chen’s poor first inning spoils Machado’s debut

AP Photo Last night, in front of an announced crowd of 21,226 at Camden Yards, the Orioles’ top position prospect Manny Machado made his big league debut. Unfortunately, before many of those 21+ thousand fans had even had a chance to find their seats, the Birds were in a 4-0 hole. Starter Wei-Yin Chen, who has been the team’s most reliable starter all season, was touched up...

Diary of a Baltimore Orioles fan

The other night I was out at a sports bar with some friends watching the Baltimore Orioles get trounced by the Yankees. As a life time Orioles fan this was nothing new, we have been losing to the Bronx Bombers for as long as I can remember. But there was something different that night. The usual apathy that accompanies an O’s loss was replaced with anger and discontent. People...

Young prospect Machado delivering for Orioles

Hear that sound? It's all the doubters climbing on the bandwagon. That's what happens when a highly touted 20-year-old in his second big league game unloads for two home runs and four RBIs. Manny Machado -- promoted to the Orioles Thursday to play an unnatural position for a club in the playoff hunt -- launched himself into Orioles lore, just as he touched off a pair...

Manny Machado hits first two home runs of MLB career...and the same fan catches both (Video)

Baltimore Orioles rookie third baseman Manny Machado hit the first two home runs of his major league baseball career during Friday night's 7-1 win over the Kansas City Royals. However, the more interesting part of the story is the fan in the stands at Camden Yards who caught both baseballs. Your browser does not support iframes. The lucky fan, 15-year-old Adam Corder,...

Knock-Knock. Who’s there? Not Orioles fans.

The following is a guest post from Mike Randall at The Boh Pen, who was kind enough to let us re-post this very timely piece he wrote over the weekend.  If there is one thing fans of anything Baltimore hate, it’s when Pittsburgh does something better than us. It’s worth pointing out that attendance from Friday night’s 7-1 Orioles win was 17,277. It was the Orioles’ 6th...

Finders Keepers/Welcome to the Bigs, Kid: Manny Machado (Special Double Edition)

Welcome to the special double edition of Finders Keepers/Welcome to the Bigs, Kid. Late Wednesday evening, the Baltimore Orioles shocked the baseball world and fantasy community, at large, by announcing the call up of their top position player prospect, 20 year old Manny Machado.  If you are familiar with either of this series of articles you know what will follow. But if not...

Manny Machado Makes O's Debut; Chen Lit Up By The Royals...

The Baltimore Orioles nice five-game win streak came to an end as they lost to the Kansas City Royals, 8-2. This was the first contest in a four-game set. Wei-Yin Chen should be considered the ace of the Orioles, as he has been nothing short of phenomenal in the last two starts; however, on Thursday night, he got hit hard – very hard. The Orioles got punished by the Royals early...

Manny Machado hits 2 home runs in second big league game; same fan catches both

Yesterday Manny Machado made his major league debut for the Baltimore Orioles after being called up from the team’s Double-A affiliate the Bowie Baysox. The 20-year old infielder, who was ranked by Baseball America as the #11 prospect heading into 2012, went 2-4 with his first hit being a triple. He also scored one [...]

Machado hits 2 HRs as Orioles beat Royals

BALTIMORE (AP) -- Luke Hochevar threw 90 pitches, 87 of which he found satisfactory. The other three cost him dearly. Hochevar yielded three home runs and didn't make it out of the sixth inning in the Kansas City Royals' 7-1 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Friday night. In his previous 22 starts, Hochevar (7-10) gave up a total of 13 homers. In this one, Omar Quintanilla...

Manny Machado: The Showstopper; O's Win and Where are The Fans?

Third baseman Manny Machado has only been up in the majors for only two games, but he is quickly becoming a face of the franchise. Yes, again, it has only been two games, and it does not make a career; however, Machado at Oriole Park did something remarkable last night. He hit two homers – back to – back – a solo shot, followed by a three-run homer, and the Baltimore Orioles...

Manny Machado’s Fast Start

It’s been an outstanding year for 20 year old rookies in the big leagues.  The newest name to surface is Baltimore Orioles rookie third baseman, Manny Machado. Machado, 20,  made history tonight in just the second game of his major league career.  Machado homered not once, but twice racking up four RBI to help his new club defeat the Kansas City Royals 7-1 in Baltimore. The...

Machado Call Up a Gamble for O's

The Orioles have seen what the promotion of a big time prospect can do for a team. Mike Trout gave the Angels a major lift earlier this season, and it's something that has worked for many teams in the past. The question, however, is did Baltimore make the right move bringing Manny Machado to the big leagues now?
