Rays Central:
As the Tampa Bay Rays get set to trot Wade Davis out to the bump as the starting pitcher, manager Joe Maddon has made some lineup changes. 2B Sean Rodriguez will hit leadoff, LF Carl Crawford second followed by 3B Evan Longoria. Willy Aybar hits clean up again.
CF BJ Upton returns to the lineup today, but he’s been relegated to hitting in the #6 spot. Following Upton at #7 is Ben “Plug me in anywhere” Zobrist who is playing first base this afternoon. Carlos Pena is sitting. Is Maddon reading this blog? Maddon claims that the reason Pena is sitting is because Francisco Liriano is pitching. Please. Pena can’t hit pitchers with ERA’s approaching 7.00, now Maddon is concerned about Pena facing Liriano? Guess maybe he doesn’t want to see Pena’s BA dip below .180.
30 minutes to go, hoping for the best, but I am firmly rooted in reality. Wade Davis could make this ugly, early.
