On Sunday afternoon, one lucky Indians fan managed to catch four foul balls in the same game, a feat of luck some were placing the odds at one in one trillion. To that, Zack Hample can only scoff. The 35-year-old sportswriter has caught nearly 6,800 baseballs in the stands of major league games over the course of his life. He’s even written a book, How to Snag Major League Baseballs, based off his supposed talent. However, Hample’s latest feat is clearly a matter of skill more than luck. Just about a year ago, Hample was going to attempt to catch a baseball dropped from a helicopter 1,000 feet in the air. Unfortunately, high winds caused the FAA to scuttle the stunt, but, over the weekend, Hample was back at it. Outfitted with a catcher’s mitt provided by Rawlings and a full complement of protective gear (according to The Metro, the ball reached 95 mph on its 12-second drop), Hample tried the stunt again Saturday.
