The Dodgers have reached an agreement with Marcus Thames who served as a OF/DH for the Yankees on what is presumably a one-year deal according to Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times. Thames, 34 by the start of the season, was signed by the Yankees last year to be a right handed outfielder. Very quickly the Yankees realized that he wasn’t reliable in the field and began using him strictly as a DH. Thames was successful at the plate last year putting up a .841 OPS over 82 games. Only 32 were in the field. The Yankees really never expressed interest in Thames this offseason because they only see him as a DH and plan on using Jorge Posada as their full-time DH. Instead the Yankees are considering signing Andruw Jones or Johnny Damon to fill that role.
