Eric Thames hit a tiebreaking two-run double with two outs in the eighth inning, and the Seattle Mariners beat the Cleveland Indians 3-1 Wednesday for their eighth straight win.
Seattle, which completed a three-game sweep, is on its longest winning streak since taking eight in a row from June 23 to July 1, 2007. The Mariners have won 15 of their last 16 home games.
Cleveland has lost eight in a row, which follows an 11-game skid from July 27 to Aug. 7. The Indians have lost 21 of their last 25 and are 10-29 since the All-Star break.
BEST OF MAXIM
Fans, analysts and general managers around baseball cannot seem to accept that Felix Hernandez may stay with Seattle. The fact that King Felix is the best young pitcher in the game and recently threw a perfect game does not neccessarily guarantee he will be pitching in a mega-market like Boston or New York at some point in the near future. The Mariners have their ace under control...
Now experiencing soreness in his right knee, outfielder Grady Sizemore is officially done for the 2012 season, a year in which he played zero games after being signed to a one-year deal in the offseason.
Missing the bulk of the season following a Spring Training back injury, the 30-year-old Sizemore has undergone operations on his back, left elbow and both knees, along with a pair...
Yesterday, I uttered the phrase “I didn’t know what to say anymore” about this Indians team. 24 hours later, once again, they have left me speechless in the way they lost yet another game, their sixth in a row, this time to Eric Wedge and the Seattle Mariners. The days of good pitching, great defense, and timely hitting are long gone at this point. Now it’s essentially becoming...
Last Wednesday, Felix Hernandez crafted his own place in the baseball history with just the 23rd perfect game in MLB history. As the city of Seattle watched their ace shoot himself into the record books, many businesses planned for a spike in their own books. The publicity and sense of Mariner pride brought out by this rare and spectacular performance reflected in sales; the businesses...
June 2nd, 1990—that’s a date that a lot of Mariners fans remember. Randy Johnson threw the first no-hitter in the franchise’s history. Now 22 years later, on the 35th anniversary of Mariners baseball, and on the year that Johnson was inducted into the Mariners Hall of Fame, Felix Hernandez threw the Mariners’ first Perfect Game.
It seems only fitting that Johnson’s battery...
Perfection never looked so good
Finally it has happened. After 34 and a half years of Seattle Mariners baseball, one of our own has thrown a perfect game.
Felix Hernandez faced 27 Tampa Bay Rays batters last Wednesday afternoon, and he sent them all back to the dugout without reaching base. Including 12 via the strikeout.
Felix went on to win the AL Player of the Week award for...
(Eds: Adds details, quotes. With AP Photos.) By TIM BOOTH AP Sports Writer For much of his first two seasons as manager of the Seattle Mariners, Eric Wedge has preached exactly what his team has practiced over the past month.
And while the Mariners' second-half surge is realistically too late to make a push for this postseason, it's at least giving hope that Seattle'...

Felix Hernandez wasn't perfect. He was still dominant.
Hernandez allowed one run in 7 2-3 innings in the first start following his perfect game, Jesus Montero hit a three-run homer in Seattle's four-run seventh inning, and the Mariners won their seventh straight beating the Cleveland Indians 5-1 on Tuesday night.

Felix Hernandez was as good as can be the last time he took the mound, tossing the majors' third perfect game this season and the first in Seattle Mariners history.
He was anything but perfect the last time he faced the Cleveland Indians.
Hernandez looks to help Seattle win its season high-tying seventh straight game while running his personal unbeaten streak to 13 and avenging...
Let's just say before we get into this story, we aren't defending either side in this one, because they were both wrong.
Cleveland Indians closer Chris Perez had a rather NSFW "discussion" with an Oakland A's fan who, according to our friends at Larry Brown Sports, had been harassing him for years.
This time, the...
The Oakland A's were able to rebound after their disappointing road trip to sweep the Cleveland Indians over the weekend and regain their footing after a week-long stumble. But they lost the first game of this week’s series against the Minnesota Twins, a team that came into the series losers of nine of 10. Then, the A's front office sprung into action.
