The Seattle Mariners' ability to make opposing pitchers look good in Safeco Field goes on unabated.

Seattle played the ninth game of its 10-game homestand Tuesday against Baltimore, and Orioles lefty Wei-Yin Chen came close to being the second pitcher to throw a perfect game in Seattle this season.

He retired the first 19 batters he faced before left fielder Casper Wells parked a home run into the left field bleachers, Seattle's first run in its 5-4 loss to the Orioles.

Chicago White Sox right-hander Philip Humber threw a perfect game in Safeco Field on April 21.

Seattle's troubles at home just seem to get worse. The Mariners are hitting .198 at home, by far the worst mark in the majors. They had just five hits Tuesday, and for the first nine games of the homestand, they are batting just .183 (52-for-283).

The Mariners got Michael Saunders back after missing five starts, and he doubled and scored a run in the eighth. However, cleanup hitter Jesus Montero continues to struggle. He has just one RBI since June 1.

"It was a good rally, but we're still continuing to have a lot of young at-bats," manager Eric Wedge said. "We can't let (the perfect game) go that deep into the game. The deeper it goes, the harder it is to deal with."
