Gambling Insight M’s vs O’s Game 3
Baltimore has won 12 straight extra-inning games after blanking Seattle over the final eight innings of Tuesday’s contest. The Mariners probably come into this game steaming from last night.
Seattle Mariners vs Baltimore Orioles
Wednesday August 8
Oriole Park at Camden Yards – Baltimore, MD
Moneyline: Baltimore -125, Seattle +115
PITCHING MATCHUP: Mariners RH Kevin Millwood (4-9, 4.01 ERA) vs. Orioles RH Tommy Hunter (4-7, 5.55)
Matchup | Preview
The Seattle Mariners were unable to continue their rash of hot play in the Bronx, dropping two of three against New York over the weekend.
They then dropped their opener of their series against Baltimore so it appears whatever fever got into them has likely run its course.
To top it off the M’s took a smack to the face in their game late Tuesday. A blown call by a pathetic UMP and another loss to the O’s.
Given their recent play you have to think that the odds are in Baltimore’s favour.
When Kevin Millwood takes the hill you are definitely going to get an honest effort. The problem is that his effectiveness varies greatly from game to game. One thing in Seattle’s favour is that he is far better on the road.
Also, he is 9-3 lifetime against Baltimore but when he was with the Orioles pitching at Camden Yards it didn’t elevate his numbers much.
Gambling Insight M’s vs O’s Game 3
It seems pretty easy to take the other side in this one
I think by now the Baltimore Orioles have proven that they are at least better than average. You keep waiting for a team that is -55 in run differential to fall apart but they are in second place in the AL East and closing in on the struggling Yankees.
This team just shouldn’t win but it does and against Seattle it may feel like a bit of a reprieve after facing winning teams for the last 12 straight.
The Orioles have lost starter Tommy Hunter’s last 4 starts as the former promising rookie with the Rangers continues to regress. Hunter’s biggest problem is that he gives up too many long balls.
He hasn’t had a start where the opponent hasn’t gone yard since May and simultaneously he has watched his ERA balloon up to 5.55 (which would be third worst in the AL if he qualified).
Funnily he has enjoyed good success against Seattle for his career with a scant 2.28 ERA.
O/U Pick: Over
Score Prediction: Baltimore 7 – Seattle 5

LIKE FATHER LIKE SON
Baltimore Orioles pitcher Steve Johnson earned his first major league victory Wednesday night, 23 years to the day after his father notched his first big league win.
This really looks like it hurt the fence.
Seattle Mariners outfielder Eric Thames collided with a metal garage door in the outfield fence during Wednesday night's game at Camden Yards against the Baltimore Orioles.
Here's the video.

Who would have ever imagined baseball cleats could be a fire hazard? All I can say is Eric Thames is lucky there was no gasoline or dry grass under his feet during the third inning Wednesday night, otherwise he may have had to stop, drop and roll. Thames went into the right field corner to chase a foul ball during a game against the the Orioles...
Well, this is unexpected and reeks of a desperation move: the Baltimore Orioles are calling up Manny Machado, their top pick from the 2010 draft (third overall) and the second best prospect in the organization. Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun surmises that Machado will be playing third in the majors due to the presence of JJ Hardy at short.
The 20-year old Machado has spent...
M’s fall to O’s in 14
The Headline: after 14 innings, an Adam Jones walk off single seals the deal for a Mariners loss.
Seattle Mariners 7, Baltimore Orioles 8
When: 7:05 ET, Tuesday, August 7, 2012
Where: Camden Yards, Baltimore
Temperature: 85 degrees
Umpires: Home — Mark Wegner, 1B — Brian Knight, 2B — Wally Bell, 3B — Mike Winters
After last night’s victory over the Mariners, the Orioles announced they were calling up top prospect Manny Machado from Double-A and giving him the third base job for the stretch run. Wilson Betemit hasn’t been a total disaster, posting a 100 wRC+ in 356 plate appearances, but he’s one of the worst defensive players in baseball and is dreadful against lefties, so moving him...
M’s sweep into August
Coming off of two straight series sweeps is the way most teams would like to be heading into New York to face the Yankees.
Too bad the Mariners seemed to find themselves back in the favors of the sports writers who chose them to finish dead last this year.
But, with this club, let’s enjoy all of the wins that we can, because we’re still a few years off...
Last night the Baltimore Orioles brass announced Manny Machado would be called up. Drafted 3rd overall by Baltimore in 2010, Machado has been impressing in the minors since his debut.
With a skill set that has drawn comparisons to Alex Rodriguez, there is a definite excitement surrounding Machado. But as is expected, this decision has its naysayers.
Heading into the trade deadline...
(Editor’s note: Matt might be getting a little ahead of himself here. Still, I for one am just thrilled to be having these types of discussions in August, so I have no reservations about posting this.)
After Monday night’s games, the Orioles are just 0.5 games out of the second wild card spot, and one full game out of the first. Following a strong road trip and opening what...
I have to say, I'm not completely enamored with the Orioles calling up Manny Machado today. He's a great prospect - hitting well in Double-A (the .266/.352/.438 line doesn't look earth-shattering, but it's well above average in context as noted by his 122 wRC+) and having only just turned 20 - but, well, he only has a partial season at Double-A and he only just turned...
Steve Johnson struck out nine over six innings in his first major league start, Matt Wieters tied a career high with five RBIs and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Seattle Mariners 9-2 Wednesday night for a three-game sweep.
Nick Markakis and Mark Reynolds homered and Adam Jones had three hits for the Orioles, who have won five straight and eight of 10. It was Baltimore's 60th...
This week in Mariner-land was a time of births, plane rides, and great baseball. A bunch of good stuff happened. The Mariners first faced the Blue Jays at home, and then flew to New York to face the Yankees for the second time in as many weeks. They faced their now friendly foe, Ichiro, who has gotten a hit for his Yankees in every game that he’s started for them; this week he...
Today begins a new era for the Baltimore Orioles. This evening Manny Machado will start third base and bat ninth for the Birds.
If you stayed up late last night the word rang out through the twitter-verse and frankly I couldn't believe it. I didn't believe it at first. After reading this story earlier this month I thought initially that the Orioles' twitter account was...
The Future is Now for the orioles
Machado will make his first MLB start for the Orioles tonight
While most of the beltway has had their heads turned by the great year the Washington Nationals have been having, another large group of DMV natives have just been waiting for RGIII to make his debut.
Then there is this little small group of people who have stayed focused on the...
A young and talented roster is looking to lead the Baltimore Orioles to their first playoff appearance since 1997, when the latest addition to the team was only 5 years old.
Manny Machado, Baltimore's top prospect, is expected to make his major league debut Thursday night when the Orioles go for a season-high sixth straight win in the opener of a four-game series against the...
