Jon Morosi of FOXSports says that there’s a “40/60 chance” that the Oakland A’s make second baseman Mark Ellis available.
Candidates that could use Ellis’ services include the Philadelphia Phillies and Minnesota Twins – both of whom need infield depth.
Ellis, 33, is hitting .288/.355/.374 with Oakland this season. He’s making $5.5 million this season and has a team option for $6 million 2011. The only problem right now is that Ellis has a full no-trade clause. However, given the likelihood that the Athletics will not make a post-season run, he may waive that to play for a contender. The A’s are currently 8 games out in the AL West.
