Third baseman Mark Teahen left the White Sox spring training facility Friday morning, sent home by manager Ozzie Guillen.

Guillen said Teahen was dealing with a health issue within his family and didn’t want him distracted on the field.

He has some family problems. That’s the reason we sent him home. Not problems, but health problems. I don’t want him to be thinking about something about what he has to do here and what he has to do there. To me I always say family is first. You take care of your stuff back and you come back here and you’re more than welcome back. I think family is very important and that’s the reason we sent him home. He should be back in a couple of days.

Missing a few days of camp will not affect Teahen’s status in his competition with Brent Morel for starting third baseman, Guillen said.

Teahen is in the second year of a three-year, $14 million contract. He missed more than half of last season due to injury and only posted a .258 batting average in 77 games with four homers and 25 runs batted in.
