New York Yankees All-Star first baseman, Mark Teixeira, re-injured his left calf on Saturday night in Baltimore. Teixeira’s calf has become a major issue for the Yankees, who now expect him to be out for a least four more days this week.
Teixeira is scheduled to undergo an MRI today [Monday], so doctors can see how severe the strain actually is.
Teixeira suffered a Grade 1 calf strain back on August 27th against the Toronto Blue Jays, causing the first baseman to miss a total of 10 games before returning to the field over the weekend.
Pending the results from his MRI this afternoon, the Yankees fear this injury could keep him out for the remainder of the season.
Outfielder Nick Swisher (.255/.343/.452) will reportedly fill in at first base for most of Teixeira’s absence.
Major anticipation awaits this news. The Yankees hold a slim one game lead over the Baltimore Orioles in the AL East.
