2012 MLB Team Preview: Miami Marlins

New Miami Marlins Logo. Welcome to Miami…Marlins. As the team formally known as the Florida Marlins not only got a different name to go with their new uniforms, they got a new home and manager too. Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria kept his promise about investing in the team once they got a new stadium, as he opened his wallet wide. Loria went on an off-season spending spree that probably...

Marlins president David Samson reportedly says Miami people are stupid, cares more about money than fans

I don’t know anything about Miami Marlins president David Samson, but if the reported comments he recently made are accurate, he’s a pretty awful guy. Speaking at a Beacon Council breakfast meeting about the new Marlins ballpark Tuesday, Samson called Miami people stupid, while showing how business-oriented he is. According to Miami Today News, Samson prefaced his remarks by...

From Left Field: Marlins Home Run Celebration Is Very Distracting

There’s been a lot of talk about the Miami Marlins all offseason, so I’ll keep the trend going. Let me start off by saying, I downright love the “Home Run Apple.” Whether it’s the old one outside Citi Field or the new one inside the stadium, the Home Run Apple is a Mets and baseball icon. In addition to bringing multiple high-profile free agents including Jose Reyes, the...

The Turncoat Edition

It's nice to have some things to write about when the spring training game that is being played isn't on television. Luckily, a few people obliged for me. Notably, Marlins President David Samson, who has showed us why Jose Reyes made a bad (albeit very rich, and probably his only) decision: In making the move to Little Havana, Mr. Samson said, the team had some tough contract...
