Marlins Designate RHP Jose Veras For Assignment

The Florida Marlins have designated hard-throwing righty reliever Jose Veras for assignment. They had seen enough of the former Yankees and Indians pitcher after he allowed eight runs, seven hits, and four walks in 4 2/3 innings. Veras did strike out six batters. The righthander owns a career 4.80 ERA in 133 innings over 132 games from 2006-2010. Veras works in the mid-90’s with his fastball, but he pitches up in the zone, which has led to an inflated homer rate (1.22 HR/9) in his major league career. He also lacks control (4.94 BB/9).
