The Miami Marlins poor June continued with their fifth straight loss and 14th overall in the month on Friday.   The final of this one was 12-5 with the Toronto Blue Jays coming out on top.    Miami is now only a half game ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies who sit in last place in the division. Anibal Sanchez allowed six runs in only three and a third innings in one of his worst starts as a Marlin.   Sanchez walked four and allowed seven hits as he struggled to throw anything over the plate that would confuse the Toronto lineup.   The loss dropped the right-hander to 3-6 on the season after he started the year as a potential Cy Young candidate.   Chad Gaudin tossed the next one and two third innings in scoreless fashion but was lifted for a pinch-hitter due to a potential rally by the offense.  Gaudin would’ve likely worked at least two more innings if the at-bat was not needed.   Ryan Webb continued the struggles that Sanchez started allowing six runs of his own in his two innings ...

Marlins' Ruggiano makes great diving catch

It hasn't been a good week for the Miami Marlins, as they finished it up with their 6th-straight loss. But OF Justin Ruggiano had the play of the week with the full extension of a diving catch to rob Brett Lawrie of what could have been 2 RBIs. 2012_6_23_14_35_04 by [...]

Bonifacio plans to be back at the break

Center fielder Emilio Bonifacio has had a tough time watching his teammates struggle through a 4-15 June, but he said he'll be ready to join the Miami Marlins after the All Star break. Bonifacio, on the disabled list with a jammed left thumb, took 25 swings from the right side Friday and will swing from the left side Saturday. If all goes as planned, he will start live hitting...

Marlins try to avoid getting swept by Jays

As the losses continue to pile up, the Miami Marlins appear to be reaching their wits end. The Marlins try to avoid a season-worst seventh consecutive defeat and 16th in 18 games Sunday when they conclude a three-game set with the Toronto Blue Jays, winners of six of eight. Miami (33-38) has been downright awful over the course of its 2-15 slide, getting outscored 120-42 while...

Marlins looking to rebound againt Blue Jays

Josh Johnson has delivered three of the better pitching performances for the Miami Marlins during their lengthy swoon, though he doesn't have much to show for them. The only starter to win a game for the Marlins in nearly three weeks tries to prevent the team's 15th loss in 17 games Saturday against the visiting Toronto Blue Jays, who took the series opener convincingly...

Marlins shut out Jays to snap skid

Mark Buehrle pitched effectively for seven innings to become the winningest pitcher in interleague play, John Buck hit a three-run homer and the Miami Marlins snapped a six-game losing streak with a 9-0 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday. Greg Dobbs had a two-run homer among his three hits for the Marlins, winners for just the third time in 18 games. Buehrle (6-8) gave up...

Dobbs, Buck homer as Marlins end skid

MIAMI (AP) -- Mark Buehrle pitched effectively for seven innings to become the winningest pitcher in interleague play, John Buck hit a three-run homer and the Miami Marlins snapped a six-game losing streak with a 9-0 win over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday. Greg Dobbs had a two-run homer among his three hits for the Marlins, winners for just the third time in 18 games. Buehrle...

Marlins 9, Blue Jays 0

Marlins Win, Tie Last June's Win Total

With the Marlins 9-0 win today over the Toronto Blue Jays, Miami ends a six game losing streak and tie their win total from last June.  It is quite amazing the turnaround the Marlins have gone threw in a matter of weeks.  The Marlins were the best team in the big leagues in May, then the calender turned to June and just like last year the Fish have fallen on their faces and have...

Friday Morning Cram Session, 6/22

Last night, team owner Jeffrey Loria held a closed door meeting with Marlins players and coaches, presumably to express displeasure at the club's freefall since June 5, which has left them just a game above the Phillies in the race not to be last in the NL East. Now, many would doubt Jeffrey Loria's ability to inspire a room full of grown men to play a game better. ...

"Youthful Enthusiasm" leads comeback, clinches sweep over the Marlins

So how long will it be for before Sully's puts "Youthful Enthusiasm" on a shirt? They have to be printing them out now right? Three prospects, Will Middlebrooks, Ryan Kalish, and Daniel Nava, put together a great three run rally to give the Sox one of their best victories of the year, a 6-5 win over the Marlins.  It started off when another surprise this season...

Miami’s Hanley Ramirez to the Tigers a possibility?

After an offseason of big spending, the re-tooled Miami Marlins currently sit seven games back in NL East and have six teams ahead of them in the Wild Card chase. This is also considering the Fish finished out Thursday 3 games under the .500 mark at 33-36 with their loss to the Boston Red Sox. But based off the offseason that they had and the amount of money that was spent, it...

Marlins collapse thanks to Blue Jays' late rally

MIAMI (AP) -- Edwin Encarnacion hit a tiebreaking homer in the top of the ninth and Colby Rasmus had a grand slam later in the inning, lifting the Toronto Blue Jays to a 7-1 win over the Miami Marlins on Saturday. Encarnacion led off the ninth with his 21st home run off Steve Cishek (4-1) to break a 1-all tie. After Jeff Mathis laid down a bunt that Cishek mishandled allowing Reed...

Boston Red Sox rally twice to complete sweep over Miami Marlins

The young guns of the Boston Red Sox shined in a 6-5 comeback win over the Miami Marlins.  Daisuke Matsuzaka allowed three first-inning runs thanks to a pair of singles by Greg Dobbs and Omar Infante. It took the Red Sox until the fourth to get on the board off Marlins starter Victor Zambrano. A Will Middlebrooks single and Mike Aviles sacrifice fly would cut the lead to...
