JUPITER, Fla. (AP) -- Kris Medlen pitched 4 2-3 scoreless innings, then left the Atlanta Braves' 2-1 win over the Miami Marlins on Wednesday night when he was hit by a line drive for the second time. Rob Brantly lined a single off Medlen's left shoe with one out in the fourth, and Casey Kotchman hit the right-hander's pitching arm in the fifth. Medlen was replaced for precautionary reasons by Jonny Venters. The balls off Medlen were the Marlins' only hits. Freddie Freeman homered off Nathan Eovaldi leading off the second, his third home run of spring training. Chris Johnson added a tiebreaking single against Jonathan Albaladejo with two outs in the ninth. Eovaldi gave up three hits and struck out four in five innings. Venters forced in a run in the sixth when he walked four straight batters. B.J. Upton had a single and double for the Braves and is batting .410 (16 for 39).

The Braves had planned for Kris Medlin to work five innings on Wednesday but opted to remove the right hander after he was hit with a second comebacker in his start against the Marlins. Medlen held the Marlins scoreless while allowing just two hits. He struck out three while lowering his ERA to 2.63 this spring. After being removed from the game, Medlen opted to hang around the dugout...

Roster hopeful Kevin Kouzmanoff continues to display power for Marlins

The Florida Marlins likely saw the addition of Kevin Kouzmanoff to the organization as an option at Triple-A. Instead the 31-year-old infielder is putting on a power display this spring. Kouzmanoff hit his third home run of the spring on Tuesday, combined with his three doubles he now has a .400 batting average. Reading too much into spring training numbers is always dangerous especially...

2013 Fantasy Baseball Tiers for Closers – Craig Kimbrel Sits on Top

The fantasy baseball tiers for closers tend to be a little bit thinner with very few consistent options for saves from year-to-year. We already know going into the season that more than 30% of the closers are going to lose their job at some point during the season. In 2013, we also seem to have a higher number of first time closers than in recent years which makes quantity over...

Chipper Jones Rejects Yankees

I was very glad to see Chipper Jones reject the Yankees’ overtures for a comeback. It’s not that I wouldn’t want to see Jones have a change of heart, but not with the Yankees … not with anybody else but the Braves. CHIPPER: Turns down Yankees I’ve always admired players to begin and end it with the same team. That ‘s what I want to see for David Wright. It’s one of...
